Still got it in :(

utter bullshit. sounds like they couldn't be arsed doing it

It is though isn't it? Its been proved in this thread how easy it is with no need for any bloody braided hose! Maybe Dhobbs needs to point them in the direction of this thread...

Hi elevensies, if you go back to page 5 of this thread Mike (DLV) has provided a really good guide on how to remove the CDV

I want to get this done on mine too. Is there anyone near Bristol/Gloucester who does it as I don't have exactly the right tools or lifting kit to get comfortable access to it. Obviously I'd be prepared to pay for your time :)

This is a job any garage should be more than capable of doing for you. Alot of general garsges might not have heard of it but certainly anyone familiar with BMWs such as a specialist will have. It's not like say a roof motor relocation that in many cases is beyond the remit of even BMW specialists and more the domain of some of the folks on here.

I'm not wholly convinced by their expertise to be honest. Their communication is terrible. They repaired my ABS pump and didn't bleed the system properly, had to take it back and get it re-bled!

Not a Z4, but it's mechanically the same as a pre-facelift so kind of relevant.

Anyway I just collected my 325ti from being serviced and having the CDV removed. I also had the gear-lever bushing replaced and gearbox oil changed.

I've only done a few miles in it, but it feels like a different car with a much less sloppy gearchange and no kangarooing! If only I'd had it done sooner.
Coupes because stunning!

Really interested in this because I hate the 1 to 2 shift on my Z I find I have to alter the sequencing between my right and left foot differently (and more carefully) than any other car I have driven, to get anything like an acceptable pull away. Even then the shift feels very clunky, I assume this mod will make this better.

The only concern I have is I am not really following why did BMW fit it in the first place if it makes the gearchange a less pleasant experience, there must be some benefit of it being there (presumably it protects against something). If so what are the risks of removing it?

In short - none!

BMW fitted them to basically "protect the drivetrain from abuse" ie people repeatedly "dumping" the clutch, yup in a "sports car" so basically, no matter how quickly YOU release the clutch, it will only engage at the preset maximum speed allowed by the CDV.

Remove the CDV and YOU get the control of how fast & when it engages.

Mike
