Easy Lock Delete

Post by thanatu55 » Fri Oct 27, 2017 7:07 pm

I just thought I'd share and thank James (IAmOrion) for having the means and the brains to create this very simple yet very effective little gizmo.

So this is all there is to it.

Debadged and de-locked. Looks miles better without that unsightly lock on one side. I thought about a full lock delete but this is much easier and handy if I ever need to get in in an emergency. It just slots firmly in place, no chance of it slipping out. And if you need to get it off there is a small groove on the underside where you can fit a fingernail or a small flat screwdriver and whip it off.

If anyone else is interested in these send a PM to IAmOrion and he'll be happy to oblige for a small cost.

End result looks really good! Very nice

Your idea + my 3D Printer and (albeit simple and quick) design - It's the little things like this that make me love having a 3D Printer.

Simplicity is the best thing about it, plug it in and it's done! No modifying the boot, no risk of damage to the vehicle, easy to reverse.

And more importantly, it works!

That's very effective.

I wonder why the roadster has a visible boot lock and yet the Coupe has it incorporated into the badge?

You don`t need a parachute to skydive - you only need one to do it for a second time :exitright:

They must have realised what a bad design it was and put more thought into the Coupe, although if that was the case I don't understand why they didn't include it on the facelift roadster. Wasn't the facelift and coupe released around the same time?

Great idea! I’d seen these somewhere a few years back but iirc were really expensive. Have you considered offering them for sale to forum members?

If anyone wants to purchase some, send me a PM. :)

Material + Electric costs me about £2.50 for a set of 4 x Boot Lock Covers and 4 x Door Lock Covers. (So 8 in total)

Postage cost me £4.40 to post to thanatu55 - although I had posted them in a small box with a little bubble wrap in order to protect the pieces, it was also "Recorded/Signed For" so no tracking but it did have a tracking number to confirm delivery - I would imagine they could be posted cheaper by using a padded envelope and NOT using any tracking/recorded service. I'm just wary of Royal Mail mis handling then

Realistically I would Guesstimate costs of £5 - £8 depending on your preferred postage method

Printed in PLA.

The reason for 4 of each is allows for some paint test and also allows for an error or 2 (or even breaking one  )

I had a nightmare trying to carbon wrap the ledge piece, I was useless at it. Then by taking it off again the vinyl also took the paint off with it and left glue residue.

It needs flatting back down again and respraying :)
