Splitting headlights..
Ok, so I've seen all the "it can't be done" posts regarding PROPERLY splitting OEM lamps, BUT you now what I'm like when someone says it can't be done..
So, what have people tried?
Obviously the oven method is what I'm thinking, but Mrs DLV has just gone and bunged a chicken in it, the cheek!
So, in a couple if hours I am going to give it a go..
I'll strip as much as possible out of the lamp first, notably dipped beam projector unit, all bulbs and as much wiring as I can..
I intend to start with 100 degrees and go upwards from there if required, until I either kill the lamp or get the damn thing to split!
Wish me luck lol..

I’ve seen e46 ones split with a hot air gun before. 50s kid did it on YouTube.

Heat gun won't do these. It'll melt the edges before it gets the middle of the joint hot enough.MJJamieson wrote: ↑Sun Nov 05, 2017 5:33 pm I’ve seen e46 ones split with a hot air gun before. 50s kid did it on YouTube.

Interested to see how this turns out.
On a separate note, you mentioned to me about the 2xcite lights as mine are LHD and you mentioned filing down the beam pattern to a flat edge (rather than it kicking up to the right currently) ..... do you think this oven method would work to split the 2xcite lights?

Ok.. So the consensus is that oem lights cannot be split without cutting the lens off, therefore removing in my mind the vital locating and sealing lip yes?
Well it can be done WITHOUT cutting the lens..
Sealing lip intact.. Mike

Looks like it’s damaged the black housing though.
