3.0i rear brakes

Post by Tom Dick » Sat Nov 11, 2017 11:20 am

So being new to this Z world and still learning about the car. One of my haggling points was the rear brakes. They are wearing unevenly across the disc. I’ve done some miles and put some heat through them but they haven’t cleaned up like I thought.
Should the pads have better fully contact or is this normal?

They are shot, is the other side the same? Looks like either a sticking caliper or possibly wrong/cheap pads that have tilted in use.

The OEM pads cover all of the disc surface bar about 5mm at the outer and 10mm at the inner edges. You are losing about 50% of the braking on those...

These are mine on OEM discs;

Thanks for the reply Mike. Both sides are the same. Looks like I’ve got myself a nice job for the weekend.

The car passed an MOT a week before I collected it :?

Would you go OEM on new discs and pads or other?

Defo new discs and pads, I need to do my rears too. OEM, Pagid or a well known manufacturer are all good.

They are the worst disks I've seen on a road car in my life... That's one dubious MOT station that passed them, but at least you were aware and haggled

Without doubt needs a total renewal of disks and pads and I suspect remanufactured calipers as they look like they have not been working properly for a long time. I'd be interested to see the pads as to what was fitted and why they are not seating

I would not spend on OEM, but go for a branded aftermarket. EBC, Pagid, Mintex, etc.

No way should they have passed an MOT!

M-Tec slotted and dimpled rears, with Brembo pads would be my choice, indeed I have a pair waiting to go on the rear of mine, already have the fronts on, but in no rush as plenty of life left in mine.

Agreed. Hideous!

Looking at the rear of the pad the print seems fresh like they've been replaced not too long ago.

Edit. It actually looks like the pads may be different side to side?

Got some Brembos ordered from Euro Car Parts, just need some time and enthusiasm in these dark nights. Hopefully the calipers will be fine but I have a bad feeling about them....

Good to read a vote for M-Tec discs, just bought front and rear grooved+drilled set with Mintex pads from them. Also got the rear shoes and adjusters, springs etc to overhaul it all while it's stripped down. Will bleed new fluid through as well.

I've just fiitted Brembo rear discs and pads. There was a discount on eupocarparts, don't know if it's still available.

My rear discs looked like yours when I first got my car. New discs and pads (Pagid) and all was well again.

Noticeable improved braking and the new pads covered the disc area they should. There was no caliper problem.

Discs and pads were from ECP.

Haha no this was a couple of weeks ago, I just noticed someone was interested in some feedback on the M-tech discs so this is my vote of approval :D
