Hi all I like to make sure my car runs as best it can and have cleaned and replaced many things on the engine already now I was thinking of using a fuel system cleaner and a CAT cleaner (cataclean) does anyone have any experience with these or is it quite literally money up in smoke ? I don’t wanna put anything in the car that doesn’t do anything or worse make problems I should say the car is running ok I do need to change the rear O2 sensor on one of the banks as it says high voltage circuit I’m not 100% of the code, basically looking for any info into whether I should bother or not.

Matt.

At the risk of others telling me it's all in my head, I can confirm that when I used Wyns Gold cleaner I noticed a distinct and ongoing improvement in the cars performance. Most noticeably in the smoothness of the engine and this despite filling it every now and then with the expensive unleaded options.

I think this was the same as I used and can confirm there was an improvement... you could argue the case that it simply increased the octane of the fuel and tricks you into thinking there's an improvement and simply by using V-Power or similar continually would probably be the best advice for keeping your engine running sweet!

There are also the spray cleaners you can use, Seafoam has great reviews and have seen first hand the increased smoke that gets kicked out following a treatment... that approach will show instantly if there's any improvement.

As is always the case with this approach, you get what you pay for so don't waste your money on cheap fuel system cleaners and go for something at the upper end of the price range if you to feel any benefit.

100% V Power in our cars, better additives than cheap fuel so it's constantly being cleaned. :D

I've used Archoil products in my cars and they are running good with no Ill effects.

From time to time I use Redex Which everyone says is just thin oil but it does seem to give better mpg for a while. I also use Wynns oil additive on higher mileage cars when I service them and it does make the engine less noisy and smoother running.

Same here.

When i first got my coupe, i put there AR6400-P full system cleaner through and at each oil change i add the AR9100 friction modifier.

Having used them with great results in previous cars, they seem to do a brilliant job with the coupe, as well.

The insides of the exhaust pipe exits are always clean when most other cars pipes are black.

I also always fill with V-Power every time.

Thanks for the replies guys I may give some ago and see what happens I normally use shell V power when I fill up so maybe if I run some of the cleaner through it will do it some good. Another thing to add to list

Not used anything other than super unleaded (Shell V-Power or Tesco Momentum usually, Aral Super Plus at the Ring) in almost 150,000 miles.

I’d go for a terraclean and then stick to v power.

Give terraclean a google of your not already familiar...

I can only say stay clear of Terraclean. They ruined a mates Lotus Esprit engine as it seemed to disolve just about everything ie bore liner coating and he had to have a £4000 plus engine rebuild. Not worth the risk as it may just be too effective.

:o that doesn’t sound good.

I was planning to have one early next year but it looks like I need to do a bit more research.

I’m guessing terraclean didn’t take liability?
