I've no doubt DLV does good quality work and that his customers are happy but we can't have one rule for one and another for everybody else.
I have to agree with this. However good Mike's intentions were when he started out doing a couple of roof motors for here and there the fact is it's morphed into something very different over time.

It would appear Mike earns a good bit of money (judging by the number of thank you threads)from the many services he offers as opposed to a bit of pocket money. I've no doubt he's a great guy who does great work but it's hard to argue it's not morphed into a commercial enterprise and the rules say that's not allowed.

This forum has saved me a few quid, that’s for sure!

Mike’s done a few bits for me now, and I’ve got more for him to do in the near future.... if it saves me a few quid on Indy prices ( and I’ve got a very good indie that services the car and mot’s it for free as we advertise his business on our building) but Mikes services are far cheaper on some things. Im glad I’ve found him. Wether or not, the guys done loads of members favours, as have others that relocate motors etc...

Keep it up Mate, and after speaking to him, he invests in new equipment which isn’t cheap to help us out even more when we need him. Mack, I understand what you’re saying, but for my own selfish reasons, I’m glad guys of his ilk are on here. ( btw, my indie gave me a price for cash to relocate my motor... £200!)

Each of them can have a post in the forum discount section, no problem with that. That way people looking for the service has access to a list of them, along with location and price.
sp3ctre wrote: Mon Dec 04, 2017 2:34 pm Also, seemingly every time a job is done a separate "thank you" thread pops up... I can see why people get wound up.
How are you going to solve all the new topics opened all the time that the roof motor works so good or the new key unlocking fantasticly?

Can also see both points of view and I personally don’t want to read lots of “thank you” posts.

However, is the above suggesting that people are now unable to say a “public” thank you?? That this has to be done via pm?

Well done Mack, you’ve put forward an intelligent and lucid argument yet had some pretty unfair stick for it, hats off for sticking at it
I think the end result is the right one too

I’m hoping not to deal a heavy hand on this, that’s not fun for anyone. The issue is threads popping up every other day.

Yes but I dont think people who open these topics only want to thank DLV or whoever offered their service, but I think they want to share it with the world. I can understand that (although you dont see this on for example the german Z forum where also a lot of commercial members are active offering their services, maybe its a country specific mentality).
Maybe something like a sticky in the subforum where they get their activitytopics or so that thank you's can be placed in the respective topics instead of opening new topics littering the forum?
It will kick a service topic constantly but I can live with that.
Actually I think on the german Z forum those commercial kicked topics are kept out of the 'new posts' section. I dont know if thats possible with this forums' software.

I'm glad that's all cleared up and everyone knows what's what, there's a difference between earning a few quid here and there and going full commercial, endorsements are ok too as long as they're genuine, we all like to know who's doing a good job
