Question for anyone with a quaife atb?

Ditto my experience - no noise from the diff itself.

However if you're getting a small noise when moving off it could be the input shaft splines moving slightly in the diff housing? Did you take the whole diff housing off the car to swap to the lsd? People I've heard grease the splines but it's a temporary fix at best - it doesn't make any impact on the drive or on longevity so I'd just leave it if it is this tbh!

^there should be no movement between input shaft splines and propshaft flange.

And there should be no difference in noise between before and after install.

Just spoke to Birds, they say it's normal - Just the helical wheels sliding back in their pockets after the complete change of direction.

Plenty of z4s do it - it's like one of the bigger complaints about the cars aren't they?!

I've assembled/dissembled 3 used diffs and none had movement on those shaft splines. (mind you, I put some extreme torque/power on those too compared to stock!)
Also TIS doesnt require to grease that up.
If movement gets onto those splines, then there is some extreme user error involved.
Sounds like some strange figment that the splines on the diff input shaft are the same as a first motion shaft on a gearbox....

Maybe its also a local figment as on the mainland this is certainly not a parctice that people do. I only see this written on the uk or us forums, but not on say the german forum, and there are some pretty hardcore engineers on there.

As stated, there should be no noise. What kind of noise are you hearing? If it’s a clunk / thump, check that all bolts are appropriately torqued, especially the one I’ve pointed out in the pics.
