Question for anyone with a quaife atb?

Post by Ducklakeview » Mon Dec 04, 2017 4:25 pm

Have noticed recently if I go from reversing to drive, a faint noise as I initially pull away. I THINK it's just the rollers moving from one end of their pockets to the other fire to the change in direction. Anyone else get this?

ping Perry Gunn, he has one fitted. Mind you, he'd have to drive it to help you out....

I do Mark but it’s of a different design and work differently. I get no noise but your probably right Mike it’s just the lockers moving up there locking ramp angles!

My little blue zed is in lots of bits. With lots of things started and not many finished! I may have found the limits of my time and ability!!

X posted..

That's what I'm thinking, it had less than 200 miles on it when it went in, and now has about 3k on it. Not worried about it, as that's the only time it does it, just wondered if it was "normal" for them..

He was referring to an M factory diff not a BMW M (factory!) diff, though I can see why you'd read it like that :) They're helical I think so pretty similar to the torsen quaife I'd have thought? Doesn't the quaife deal with the issue with those type of diffs where one wheel will loose all drive if completely unloaded, or something like that?

Yes, I believe the quaife overcomes that issue, came say I've yet put that particular bit to the test, yet..

Lol, no I can't imagine it's an easy to create scenario, excepting the obvious one of an icy puddle on one side of the road... :?

I haven't noticed any more clunking than before. There is a small noise going from reverse to forwards.

I have one and there has never been any noise in any circumstance. Nobody would know it was an LSD from listening alone.
