DIY “Phantom” Side Indicator
Wondering if anyone would be interested in the know how of a diy “phantom” style side Indicator.
I realize this type of Indicator is not to everyone’s taste, but some people like it - let’s not argue the case here please.
Uses a small ws2812 led strip, and an arduino nano and a 3D printed inside lens part. Technically speaking you could have any animation you want within Indicator guide lines - as an example it must complete 1 animation cycle within 500ms and can only be orange in colour.
(Animation is extended in time so that each led can be seen in the video)

What's the cost compared to the item that gaptech sell for 80, I do realize that for some it's making the item themselves as apposed to buying something already done, an I think if it's matched with the tracer style front indicators it's good work

That's a great idea.
I was thinking of making the BMW roundel clear so you can see through the white bits.

What's the light spread like and how did you split them? I was planning on putting strip in but just for on/off flashing.

Assuming you already have the clear lenses, it’s about £6 for the arduinos (£3 x 2), and £4.50 for the led strip which has enough to do both. So you’re looking at say £10 DIY

I used a small metal spatula thing to lever the edge of the lens up all round. You’re breaking the glue seal basically. Very easy to do.Scooba_Steve wrote: ↑Mon Dec 11, 2017 9:15 pmWhat's the light spread like and how did you split them? I was planning on putting strip in but just for on/off flashing.

I like the number of lights in the first video, but I think it would look better a little faster. Good job

The first vid is slowed... I’ll make another at correct speed for the 500ms rule and post in a few mins.
