OEM Led License Plate

Post by vortek » Thu Dec 22, 2011 3:18 pm

Hello there,

So I just replaced my original plate lights with the ones from the new 1 Series (OEM Led), and they fit just fine and don't show the bulb warning.
Looks really cool by the way :D

The thing is, it lights up the floor wayyyyy to much... do you think the Leds are receiving too much power and need a resistor? The Led says 1,3 W but i don't know how much it is actually receiving.

Any thoughs?

I wouldn't worry about that..sure the stock ones on the 1er are the same too. You can't see that ground lighting effect when your on the move sure! :)

Lol I know what you mean but don't worry. I was sad enough to get someone to drive my car past me so I could see what its like from the outside!

The LED will only take the power it needs providing the voltage is correct, which it is. If my ever-so-rusty electricals are correct, the occasional resistor requirement is only because the LED bulb draws so little current the ECU thinks a bulb has gone and can flag a warning light - which of course is an MoT failure from Jan 1 as well. 8)

My missus has the 1 coupe and the standard LED plate lights do light the floor quite a lot, but it's got lights in the door handles too, so it kind of looks right when parked. I might 'borrow' them to see how they look on my Zed!
