DICE silverline duo review

first thing to the admin. a review section would be a good idea for this forum :poke:

anyway i bought one of these off Amazon for £99 (Dice Silverline DUO-100-BMW (BMW/Mini Trunk connection) and after some reviews I’ve read i was taking a risk but after digging a bit more most of the bad reviews were with the older model.

So anyway i opened the box and the first step was to update the software. The box doesn’t contain a USB to mini USB cable but most people have dozens lying around the house. Had to register the device and update took seconds. You can read the update fix list on the dice website. its like the updates for iphone apps, it tells you what minor fixes have been made.

so my car doesn’t have a cd changer or satnav so i didn’t need the fancy intravee unit. Install took seconds. Slid a knife around the sub box behind seat and it pops out and with the carpet lifted in the boot you can see strait through. i decided to keep the unit in this gap as its easier to access than removing the lighter unit compartment if i ever update it again. I’ve also got an extension cable between the unit and my phone since i made my own spec dock which was in a HOW-TO i did a bit back.

after putting the car back together and tucking the cables away, re attached the battery and hey presto it worked. from start to finish it only took 20 min and 10 min of that was getting the front compartment in and out. sound is clear as the cd player, sound levels are almost identical to the radio and it charges my iphone :D although i did have to update my phone to a newer IOS version ( had 4.0 and needed 4.3 or something like that, got 5.0.1now)

so overall im happy with the unit and for the price you cant go wrong.

I think I am going to go for one of these. Sold my intravee because I don't have Nav,never worked as well as it did in my 330cd which did.

Any issues with slight "hiss" on quiet tracks? That is my only complaint on mine, and this is also the DUO-100-BMW (circa 2011). Adjusting gain levels can reduce it, but this then gives a source volume mismatch.

i have no problems at all. when did you last update your device?? one of the fixes a few months ago was ment to fix the buzzing. i havent even touched the settings worked at the correct levels strait away.

and im not too sure about the DSP, i didnt even know what it was until i googled it. someone on this fourm must have an answer though

Its a bit late but for the record, yes you'll need their dsp adaptor if your one of the unlucky few with the digital dsp unit. Its fairly straight forward to get to the factory cd changer location, although those carpet nuts can be a bit of a pain. Once there you'll find either a 3 pin cable and a 6 pin cable, in which case your in luck and just need the DUO-100-BMW unit. If you find a little coax plug and a 3 pin cable, you'll need a Dice ACC-BMW-DSP unit, in addition to the DUO-100-BMW unit.

Unfortunately with the ACC-BMW-DSP it seems getting it power was a bit of an afterthought, so rather than piggy backing off the DUO unit, they provide you with a cable bare ends. As I didn't have a switched live to hand, I just scotch locked them to the multi-pin plug going to the Duo unit. If you cut back the fabric wrap, you can attach your live to the yellow cable, and your negative to the black cable. These will give both the Duo and the dsp unit a permanent live.

Hi everyone, I'm hoping you can help. I've just bought the dice duo and found out I have the dsp system. I've heard negative feedback about the dsp adapter, so I'm considering running the non-dsp wire(6 pin). Has anyone attempted this or even know if its possible?

Will there be the correct interface on the headunit?

Help!

Thanks.

I haven't had any problems with my dsp adaptor, just te inconvenience of needing one.

On the installation front I think you'll find the only other option you have is to completely remove the dsp system, which would involve quite a bit of speaker rewrieing. You'd also need to check the back of the head unit to see if it has analogue outputs you could wire to the speakers. I would suggest going with the dsp adaptor, the other option is not for the faint of heart.

It should be possible to use the standard 6 pin audio, but you will need the radio/amp re-coding as well as just providing the physical wires.

Thanks for the info guys. I think I may just buy the dsp adapter.

Here's a post on zpost that seems to imply its possible. http://www.zpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=384056

I called my local dealer, to try and source the cable. The guy I spoke to wasn't familiar with the radio options or dsp, but quoted £477 for a new wiring loom. Err dsp adapter it is then.

i dont have DSP so im not sure about this but is the bravsound video on youtube the same process. its on a 5 series but there cant be much differece

I need to take a look in the boot and check out the amp wiring. I know there's been issues connecting the dsp adapter power to a switched power source(so dsp adapter doesn't drain the bat). I think others have wired to the 3pin cable.

Think I've read every forum and watched every vid on dsp now. It's been my life for the last few days :(

Thanks again for your help.

I haven't found any issues at all with running my dsp off the permanent live. It looks like that's what the factory changer does anyway.

The factory CD Changer does run off a permanent live, but it is connected to the iBus which enables it to enter a very low power sleep mode when it's not in use.

Running the A/D converter off permanent live is not a good idea.

Right, I'm trying to track down a dsp adapter that I can get before the weekend. Hopefully someone's got one in stock they can ship on next day del!

After looking at the bravsound vid (thanks for the link), I'm going to wire it into the amp. Those guys seem to know what they're doing, so going to follow their advice.

Cheers guys.

I've spoken to dynamic sounds earlier in the week. They've got a dice delivery due in today. :)

The delivery got stuck at customs, so no dice dsp adapter :(

Hopefully it'll arrive on time for next weekend!
