I've been fortunate to be able to afford one at a youngish age (25) purely because of the job I do. But seeing on this forum there are loads of youngsters here too! :P At the moment we're just a happy young couple but with little ones on the way (hopefully) I'm scared I'll have to bid farewell to the Zed!

The only thing I'm confused here is the insurance, I'm 25, married and obviously a female(!) and my Zed is 2.2l with 2 years NCB, yet my insurance is still £1000 this year! I've read some fellow users getting a Z4M, male, under 25 (as young as 21) and quoted £1300? I tried to get a quote for a 3.0 Z but it was over £1300 :?
I'm 23 (Z4 M Coupe, male, single) and am paying £1300 with Elephant. As i've said, i've got a £2000 excess, but 2 really big things for reducing my price was 1. adding my mum as a named driver and 2. saying that the car would be parked on the drive and not in the garage (amazing, but it reduced the quote by a fair amount). Hope that helps. Like Pedro says, Elephant seem to be a good insurer for us young 'uns  It's also pretty easy to go back and 'tweak' your quote through their website, too.

Interesting that the garage quote was higher than the driveway quote! Wonder why that is? :?

Yeah, it was very odd Breaker... I wonder whether it's one of those oddities where Elephant (and other insurers) know what the most popular options/requirements are and therefore try to be most competitive on those things. Given that I imagine that most cars in the UK are parked on driveways rather than in garages, insurers are under more pressure to be competitive in that scenario, and less popular choices like garage end up - deliberately or just because more focus is put on being cheap for driveways - being more costly. Perhaps it's also a strange scenario created by living in what I guess is regarded as a good area, and so a car on the drive isn't considered at as much risk as it could be elsewhere...

Ouch. I paid £1200 for a brand new Tuscan S when I was still 23. I'm sure I don't remember having an excess much higher than £600 either. Scary how much insurance has risen in a few years.

I've always found Privilege the best for me. They insured me on the Tuscan, my old RX-8, VX220 Turbo and the Z4MC. When my renewal just came up on the Z4M I tried phoning around (Adrian Flux, Elephant, Admiral, Tesco, A-Plan etc etc) and no one got close to their price. I don't know if it's because I've been with them now for the last 8 years, but they certainly beat all the competition time after time ...
