From what I've read DAB is similar to MP3 quality and therefore inferior to FM. So if you only listen to FM stations no need to get DAB.
If you listen to MW stations very much a different story though I believe.

No, I'm with you on it. I've got builr-in DAB in my e90 (was a nice surprise to find that a week after I bought it!) and it's great - even in Scotland where the DAB signal's not the best (apparently) it works fine, with BBC stations at least. Hasn't dropped them in the limited driving I've done so far. Local/non-BBC stations I've not investigated fully yet though as I rarely listen to the radio and prefer my own music.mmm-five wrote:My experience of DAB in my last two cars seems to be the opposite of everyone else's on here - i.e. I've have next to no issues with it. That's why I'm considering it for the Z4.
And I totally agree: sound quality is better on FM than DAB - I've done back-to-back comparisons in the car, switching between the two on the same radio station, and FM has a definite edge. DAB just sounds muffled in comparison but it IS static free plus wins through getting 6Music and 1xtra for mesrhutch wrote:From what I've read DAB is similar to MP3 quality and therefore inferior to FM. I have a Dension unit fitted to mine, with the window ariel. it plugs in the USB in the arm rest and works from the idrive interface.
The Idrive thinks its a usb mp3 player and all the channels are mp3 files. works quite well, ok you dont get the song info but... what doe you expect for under 140 quid.
