Issue with AUX cable

I recently bought an AUX cable for my '04 Z4. I didn't read all the ebay auction, and missed that it said I needed AUX to already be listed under the modes. Mine doesn't have it.

Is there anything I can do to get it working?
 
If you are able to solder wire at all, try shorting the positive leads off pins 3 & 4 with a 300kohm resistor. On the cable, not the head unit! My understanding is this slight current allows the head unit to detect the lead and display the AUX option. No guarantees, but could be worth a go.

This worked on mine, although I didn't solder in the resistor, the company that sold it to me, sent a replacement with the resistor in it, and the AUX suddenly apeared :D mine is a 2004 model too !
 
Didn't work. What's the best one to buy for a business CD player with a 6cd. It's a 2004 SE.

I had this issue ... I have a spare resistor and capacitors if you want them I have no use for them :)

You need the capacitors in-line (series) and a resistor between (parallel), looks like you have no capacitors in-line (check the diagram)
 
I'd rather spend a bit of cash and get something that'll just work. These any good?

Yes, but I need it in a week ad don't had time to solder etc, would rather buy a product that'll work out of the box.
 
I got this one in the end worked with mine perfectly apart from the standard hiss (it has caps and resistors, so plug and play)

Ended up buying the parts from maplins, and its working. Put it all on a little board so its tidy, wrapped in electrical tape.

Good quality, thanks for the guide.
 
There is a hiss in the background when its loud, but its not that bad. No worse that the wind noise with the top down.
 
To be honest wasn't impressed with the quality that's why I ended up ditching the aux, I got a genuine (black) mp3 playing cd head unit instead (Bargain at £25!) I swopped out the my original fascia to match the grey vents!
