Spacers with 108s

Fitted 15mm spacers to the rear about a year ago but only just got round to sorting the front out. Was deliberating between 10mm and 12mm finally plumped for 12mm.

The hub spigot was slightly too deep to fit within the hubcentric spacer so I had to grind a small amount off (probably only about 1mm) to allow the spacer to sit flush. Also the extended bolts supplied (42mm) were too long and fouled the back plate. The supplier swapped these for 35mm bolts which worked fine (standard bolts were 26mm).

I'm very happy with the results. I reckon 15mm rear and 12mm front is just the right amount for a good effect without stepping over the 'Corsa' line. At a push 20mm on the rear would probably be OK too but I reckon 12mm is the absolute max for the front (15mm would be a bit too much for the front I think).

Onto a couple of planks of wood first as even with the tall M sport suspension my trolly jack won't fit underneath...

Looks great

just buy wheels with the right offset and save all hassle with the spacers

The offset of the wheel sets it inboard or further out. If you get the right wheels with the correct offset you won't need spacers Jonny.

I have 12mm spacers on the front of mine. But I made them different. Basically just a plate that fits over the spigot nice and snug. Then with a pice that fits inside the hub part to align the wheel. That probably makes no sense without a picture!!!

Yep I know what you mean monkey. At 12mm an off the shelf hubcentric spacer struggles to accommodate the depth of your existing hub spigot within its collar and can prevent the spacer from seating flush with the hub (this is why 10mm spacers just have a hole in the middle and no raised collar). I guess you've made a separate insert for the hub spigot that locates by fitting inside the hub spigot then steps out in diameter to allow wheel centering. Nice one! I actually had to grind back a small amount of my hub spigots to be sure the spacer was seated correctly (not much maybe 1mm - two minute job with a grinder/dremel or even belt sander).

I also found that the 42mm extended bolts as supplied with my spacers were too long for use with a 12mm spacer and they fouled the backplate. Swapped them for 35mm and no probs now. Originals are 26mm if anyone is wondering.

Im lost :? 313s im getting Marius

I would fit your wheels before deciding on which if any spacers to get Jonny. With 108s my opinion is that 12mm front and 15mm rear give an OEM look (makes it look like how it should have come out of the factory without appearing modified). 15mm front and 20mm rear with 108s is also OK but I think you are then erring towards the more 'conkers deep' look to which you refer.

All wheels have different offsets so the 313s will not necessarily need the same amount of spacing. Remember you can easily push wheels out but if you buy the wrong ones you cannot easily take them inwards! May not be a problem if you want the full blown 'up to your apricots' Carlos Fandango look of course! :D

Hi GreyZed,

With originals 26 mm, when you say 42 mm bolts were too long for use with 12 mm spacer, you write you swapped them for 35 mm, is there a reason not to go for 12+26=38 mm?

Can't wait to get mine fitted!!
Car looks really good!

Nice to have the photos as well as you did it.

Does it change the way the Zed handles to have spacers fitted and does it change the alignment? Is it purely for looks?

Yes not readily available off the shelf. 35mm is a standard length, for the sake of 3mm it's not worth the hassle of having specials made up.

I did it for purely aesthetic reasons. Ride is as good if not better than before. No issues with alignment.

whilst replacing my rear pads this weekend i checked what size spacers mine has on the rear.... 25mm! but none on the front (i dont think) what would be an acceptable spacer on the front to compliment the 25mm rears?? (108s on atm but looking into some 224s for the summer if that matters....)

thanks.

Well, I have got the 108s as well and about to order Eibach spacers. I have been reading many many topics on here and to me the choice is :
Front : 10 or 12
Rear : 15 or 20

Personnaly, I will go for 12 front, and 20 rear
Now studying the bolts length and where to buy them ...

If you plan to buy 224s, find Bing topics, he has made the swap from 108s to 224 before he sold his car. He had 15mm Front and 20 mm for the 108s, and if I am correct, he did not need any spacers for the 224s .. Check
