I already have a odb11 cable and odb11 Bluetooth dongle. Is there anything I can download to check faults or do some coding?

(Must run on a mac or netbook) so nothing that involves CD installation.

as long as they support IBUS / EDIBAS, then you can download INPA.
it needs windows xp 32 bit to work, but you can do this on virtualbox for mac.

if needsbe, I can stick something together for you...

Have you looked at the hardware/software sold by BM Technic? http://bmtechnic.co.uk/

Reasonable costs, a range of cables for different BMW models, simple one click install, installation support, a range of 'How To' guides and they will do remote coding as well.

Went down the eBay route first, then switched to BM Technic, they are very highly thought of on M3 Cutters http://forums.m3cutters.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=75

Re: Coding topics - advice for a total novice

Can anyone recommend hardware/software for a complete novice?

I've been advised to get a "1.4 scanner" for my '03 E85 so I can disable my tilt sensor. A google search brings up units from £20 but I'm not sure if they do what I want.

The BMTechnic solution looks very promising. I can borrow the Mrs Visa lappy & the easy install/program launch is appealing. I'm guessing it will do everything I want. The ability to wind back the rear calipers on an E89 would be useful too.

Taking an iBus log with the Intravee

Often an iBus log of the message being sent between various components in a vehicle can help determine the cause of a problem you may be experiencing.

The log should be as short as possible, but long enough to capture the problem. If possible try and reduce iBus traffic as much as possible, one way to do this is to make sure that the radio is tuned to FM and the Intravee is not the selected source, the display updates the Intravee sends cause a lot of iBus traffic. Obviously if the problem is related to display updates you can't do this.

To take an iBus log do the following :

- Connect up the Intravee to your PC and run the downloader program as if you were updating the firmware.
- In the downloader select File, Expert Mode. The first time you select Expert Mode you will be prompted to enter a log file prefix name, use your forum name or something that allows you to be easily identified.
- In the downloader select File, Start Log, select file name and location.
- In the downloader select Controls, Run emulator.
- In the emulator dialog press the button "IBUSDON".
- perform the action you want to log, in this case just let the radio play for 1 minute.
- In the emulator dialog press the button "IBUSDOFF".
- Close the emulator dialog.
- In the downloader select File, End Log.

You should now have a log of all ibus activity between selecting IBUSDON and IBUSDOFF in the emulator.

Hi all,
I was reading this fantastic post... and I noticed that you made some references to retrofitting facelift Bi-Xenons to a prefacelift Xenon Z4.

I wonder if I could ask you for some specific advice on this...

I have a 2004 E85 with pre-facelift Xenons.
I bought 2 used Bi-Xenons to replace my older broken lights.

I understand that I have 3 options for retrofitting the Bi_Xenons and overcome the flash-to pass problem:
1. Connect wire for inner bulb on pre-facelift setup to xenon shutter.
I dont like this option as the flash to pass will only work when the lights are on.
2. Use intravee. I dont have it.
3. Buy a used LCM (part 61319146282) for the facelift Xenons.

So here are my quesitons to you:
If I go with Option 1:
- is any coding required?
If I go with Option 3:
- What coding would be required?
- Could you walk me through the steps I would have to do to Recode the LCM?

I have done a bit of coding in the past.
I have NCSExpert (and Im somewhat comfortable using it now)
I also have SSS and DIS57 and P.A.Soft.

Any advice and help you could give would be very much appreciated.

Last question which noone seems to have covered...
Is it possible to recode my existing LCM rather than buying the facelift one? Or is the circuitry inside different?

Again, many thanks in advance for any advice and help you could give me.

Thanks,
John
