Non run flats....is it OK?

Hi everyone,

Have recently joined the Z4 club and the car I bought has run flats at the back and NON run flats at the front. Have been told by various dodgy car dealers that this is no problem, but wanted to get the opinion of well seasoned Z4 owners! I have also been told that the run flats are very stiff indeed, and ride quality is vastly improved by fitting NON run flats all round? Anybody have any experience of this?

It's not ideal but it's "ok". Ideally I'd go non-runflat all round when you get chance but provided you're not mixing on the same axle it'll be ok. There are a few folks on here running the same.

The ride is far better on non-runflats, mainly on early Z4's.

I've got run flats on the front still and vredestiens on the back. Not a problem but I suspect it will be a vast improvement when I can change the front ones aswel

TBH I didn't notice a big improvement in ride going to non runflats mainly because most 18" tyres suitable for the Zed are XL rated

I changed my tyres to non run flats and in my opinion the difference is like night and day ..far more comfortable on the non run flats..

Presume you didn't have Bridgestone run flats then otherwise the difference is like night and day.
Had the Dunlop run flats removed off my 118d m sport yesterday and again so much better. No more crashing over bumps.

For me the difference was noticeable when just switching the fronts from runflats , , rears wasn,t as noticeable ?
To the OP , you wouldn,t seek out the mixed set up but unless you plan to visit the Nurburgring to max your new Z then you will not experience any bad effect from a safety point of view . Proviiding you stick to the speed limit,s of course
