Dead battery

Post by Worcester_spoon » Fri Aug 01, 2014 10:16 pm

Died today. Joy.

Searched the forum, but struggled to find any agreement on which battery to get.

Bosch seems popular, but confusion over which one to get (and I'm not mechanical so it's all jumbo jumbo to me anyway).

2003 3.0i if anyone fancies sharing knowledge. Failing that, Halfords tomorrow to probably get ripped off.

I got a Bosch S4 but in hindsight I would go for the S5. But definitely buy it from Amazon as it's much cheaper and very handy for returns - I'm on my 3rd!!

Give Eurocarparts a ring for a price,if you go to their web site it will give you an idea of price.
I orderd a battery for my Mazda 6 this way and when the van driver deliverd it he said I could have got
a better price over the phone.

I have no idea about those numbers except that the Halfords website only brings back 096's. :|

The battery required depends on engine size & manual or auto.
Just punch your spec into any of the battery websites for the correct size/number.

I always buy a decent battery for my cars and one with a 4 year warranty.

I think the numbers refer to the phyical size of the battery. Just as an aside when you buy from Amazon the order is fulfilled buy eurocarparts. The thing I find is that companies are more amicable when you buy through Amazon - so when I wanted to return my battery it was done through Amazon with no questions asked. As I had not kept my receipt this was most convienient.

My local Europarts depot matched their internet prices, so top marks to them.i only hope they do the same when the battery dies in the D3.

Went with the silver S5 096. Fits a treat. Confirmed the only different between the S3/4/5 is length of warranty. :driving:

Good shout - the longer the warranty the better.
