You figured it out fine, and even took photos! I was referring to the folk who cut things off to make them fit...JAD wrote:I resent thatScooba_Steve wrote:it just needs a little thought rather than a ham-fisted approach - not hard to figure out though
Don't forget to get the wires the right way round, the LEDs require correct polarity.

This last point is a very good one and should be noted - make sure you hold the wires as you release them from the old connector and replace them in the new connector as such.Scooba_Steve wrote:You figured it out fine, and even took photos! It's only the coding of the connector I cut off, makes no difference to the quality of the connection.Scooba_Steve wrote:

However If you're not comfortable doing that, simply buy the universal connectors

Mine used to be great JE and were from the same seller you got yours from but as my car gets used as a daily and isn't a fine weather car kept under a cover. I think the elements have got to it and killed it, pretty poor considering they are only months old.Jonny essex wrote:Mine are bright white, from the UK and plug and play. That was the very reason I went for OE units. Buy once, cry once

I have silly question, how you know polarity of the wires when you change connector?

Re: Rear number plate lights, do later BMW's ones fit?
ordered both the parts linked by JAD so thats this weekends tinkering taken care of
Re: Rear number plate lights, do later BMW's ones fit?
Just make sure you keep hold of the wires and replace them back into the new plastic connector as they came out of the old. They are also different colours, so if you do let go of the wires, just make sure you've made a note of which is left and right.AnttiO wrote:I have silly question, how you know polarity of the wires when you change connector?
As per this;
To be honest, it won't blow anything - so test the light before you put it back in the bumper. If it doesn't work, you've got the wires the wrong way around.

There should be a little triangle on the plastic connector for +ve, put that colour wire into the matching location on the new connector. Or test with a multimeter.

Re: Rear number plate lights, do later BMW's ones fit?
i just bought canbus error free leds and put them in the standard holder, lot cheaper and no more hassle than buying those full black units
(and guranteed to still fit the slot for obvious reasons)
you lads are bonkers paying £25 for those units when £3 is same result
