Z4 Front End Rebuild

Post by Ethan12 » Wed Oct 05, 2016 6:56 pm

Over the next few months or however long it takes time permitting in my busy life, my challenge is going to be rebuilding my Z4 following a bump I had.

I will update this thread with the progress I am making, this could take some time.

The first job is to strip off all the smashed and mangled parts so I can inspect the front panel mounts on the chassis, this is a key part to the rebuild it has to be total straight and lined up as everything hangs of this.

Looking good so far, just need to source parts starting with the front panel.

Z4 Front End Rebuild

Post by Ethan12 » Mon Oct 24, 2016 9:03 am

I now have almost all of the parts I need for the rebuild apart from a front drivers side lower splash guard and possibly a pristine drivers side front wing, so still on the lookout for those.

Thanks to forum user kammy1975 for supplying a brand new splashguard which was hard to track down.

thanks to eBay seller Matthew Biddulph of classiccarspares2015 who's business it is to source good examples of Z4's and dismantles them for spares, he runs the cars for a few weeks to test them for any faults before dismantling with care. He also specialises in Maserati. Parts are not from accident damages cars, Unlike some breakers yards that rip parts out like a gorilla, this guys father dismantles in a workshop with care as at the end of the day it's in their interest as parts are money.

Check his eBay listings as he has a hundreds of Z4 parts at very reasonable prices and offers a very good service, parts are well packaged. He delivered all of my order due to not trusting a courier with a bonnet. Fair play to him doing a 300 mile round trip.

The wing doesn't look that bad in the picture, not worth having it pulled out ??

Sorry to see your z in a state but great to see someone else prepared to fix their pride and joy rather than see another good car go to waste. I used the same ebayer when doing mine and he was great!

Z4 Front End Rebuild

Post by Ethan12 » Sun Nov 06, 2016 10:39 pm

Whilst the front end was stripped down I carried out the oil filter housing gasket replacement, makes it so much easier to get to with the front end off.

One of the flanges on the chassis members was a bit twisted so I have straightened this out so the front panel fits and lines up ok.

Next job will be to get the rads back in and everything connected up and run up to check the engine and cooling system.

Good progress ethan and clever to do oil filter hsg gasket. Need to do mine as its sweating oil out.
My friend Laura says it smells like 2 morroccan guys have been in my car smoking a hookah. Lol
I said 'it's oil vapours' she said 'i dont care, it stinks, get it sorted'
So that's an order i suppose.
