What have you done to your car today?

Post by G600 » Wed Sep 20, 2017 8:47 pm

I've just changed the gearbox oil and taken it for a drive, for anyone considering changing it DO IT, it's made a big difference to the gear change, much smoother now.

I'd put it off for ages because of needing to have the car level while filling (putting it up on 4 axel stands doesn't feel safe to me), but in the end I got a pump from halfords (and a longer pipe) so I could lift the car, drain the old oil and put the end of the pipe into the fill hole, then I dropped the car back down and pumped til it was full, then jacked up again to refit the plug, only took about 10 minutes.

Swapped the red third break light for a clear one, I like the change but not as big a difference as I thought it would be..I'm 50/50. However I'll be sticking with the clear one.

Just because jamie_z4 was nagging me :) Nah, because I went mad on the Autosmart van yesterday, I washed it!

And then, stupidly when going to rinse the foam, I hadn't twisted the lance into the gun properly, so it popped out when I pulled the trigger, and shot forward like a bloody torpedo into my wing :o

Resulting in this...

Luckily, I'm going to see my mate the dent man on Saturday to sort the passenger wing, so I'll get it sorted then..

Looks like this now, parked on my favorite "private drag strip" AKA the delivery side of Costco which was closed :D I am loving it back on "normal" sized rubber, with the 15mm spacers back on the fronts..

My engine seems to have developed a thirst for oil in the colder weather! Odds on it being a clogged CCV system I think, so looking at ordering the replacement cold climate one as, well it is Engand! That and my daily commute is roughly 7 miles each way so better insulated pipes should reduce any future sludge.

Reading about it on an E46 guide and it looks a pain, then I realised the Zed has a huge amount more space down that side of the engine bay. All good then!

Heard the cold climate one can be a pain to install however, due to the insulation on everything. Sure I’ll be able to manage though.
