I went for the non m sizes/profiles to keep Speedo factory accurate. No close ups of the wheels but the rim protection is not amazing, 5mm at best. Fronts seem to have a bigger lip for sure. I've scrapped mine already in a tight parking lot so I'll say that it's minimal from my POV.Danderton wrote: ↑Mon Apr 10, 2017 9:38 pm Looking good!
I'm about to order 4 x Goodyear AS3s for my 224 alloys too. They currently have the original 11 year old tyres on and they're M profiles. Am planning on changing to non M profiles.
Can I ask what profiles you went for? 35 and 40 (non M) or 40 and 45 (M profiles)?
Also do you have any closeup pics? I'm interested on seeing the rim protection on the tyres as I've read they're not as protective as AS2s were
Cheers

AS3s are a more rounded tyre and have about 20mm less tread width touching the road for a given size. I would suggest 245/40/18 and 235/40/18. You don't need 255 on the rear so 245 helps the front turn in better with the 40 profile giving a much more accurate speedo. Bringing the front up by 10mm gets close to square for less understeer and with a difference of just 10mm front to back that's far more in keeping with a difference in wheel width of 12.7mm. That would put the rear ever so slightly higher than the front due to tyre sidewalls but a small amount of rake is no bad thing. This is what I have apart from the 235 which I will switch to soon as I'm still wearing out a 225/40/18. I'm also going to try the Michelin PS4 as I've had too many F1s that cause the steering to be off centre despite good alignment.

interesting, I find no issues with steering on my AS3's.. can keep hands off the wheel at 70mph on a flat motorway for e.g.Steve84N wrote: ↑Tue Apr 11, 2017 7:48 am AS3s are a more rounded tyre and have about 20mm less tread width touching the road for a given size. I have a problem on our 330 e91 with AS3, it goes straight if you let go of the wheel but to go straight the wheel is off centre. I've been back to check the toe and it's fine plus it occurred after I swapped those tyres onto it. They are getting made in cheap countries now like Poland where they used to be Germany every time. Still a good tyre but having used them for 10 years it's time to try something new.

weird! doesn't sound like tyres to me but I'm not an expert I have no issues with them so I guess it depends on the car, grip/comfort wise I find them great! compared to the previous falken fk453's which were half the tyre these are.Steve84N wrote: ↑Tue Apr 11, 2017 12:10 pm I have a problem on our 330 e91 with AS3, it goes straight if you let go of the wheel but to go straight the wheel is off centre. Tyres can want to track left or right even when pointed straight ahead due to imperfections in construction. There is a Hunter machine called the Road Force Balancer that measures the lateral push as well as the usual weight balancing but they are rare to find.

Or your garage that did the alignment only adjusted one track rod end, so whilst the wheels line up the steering wheel is not centred, which can also cause the electric steering to fight itself... Just a thought....

Thanks Ed, I'm aware of that problem and the chap I use doesn't shortcut it. All he does is alignments. It's on the 330 so hydraulic steering (pre LCI) but I also could never get my Z4 steering straight until I swapped out some F1s for new ones.

How do they repair the dents? Do they need access behind the panel?
I have two small ones on the passenger door and it bugs me. Missus can't see them but I can.
Oh, car looking great by the way

Yeah, this guy "fixadent" that's his company name goes in from the other side and massages the dent out with thin metal prongs and then does some minor adjustments from the outside. Took him all of 30 mins to fix those two.
For the boot he went in through the drain hole and for the rear quarter panel through the arch liner. No actual damage to either of those parts.
I'm sure he'll find a way in for the door too haha!
Thanks. Now just need to get the front end resprayed to get it 100%
