Wheel colour.

Post by Sgr74 » Sat Mar 18, 2017 12:12 am

When I bought my black Zed, I always intended to change the wheel colour from anthracite back to the original silver. Being the 108's it's a bugger of a job. The longer I leave it, the more the colour has grown on me.
Opinions please. Black and anthracite, too Batmobile?

I just finished my 108 refurb.
The wheels came to me sprayed bronze.
Previous to that they had been black stars with red hoops.
I had seen many with black or anthracite stars on silver hoops.
Originally I thought I'd like anthracite stars on brushed aluminum hoops.
But then was drawn to silver stars and hoops with anthracite star rim
(? That is the flange that the threaded fasteners screw through.)
One pic makes the stars look darker than they actually are.

I did it myself except for stripping the stars which I got sand blasted.
I used Dupli-Color Wheel Paint from a 'rattle can' .
I researched here first.
So many generous members willing to help and share.
I can't thank Mr. Wilks enough, but there are many others.
Then I just followed their lead.
I wasn't in any rush, and considered the refurb a winter project.

Here is a link to most of it:

Unless they need a refurb, I would hold off until they inevitably do. Then perhaps go back to silver.

Great job there Bumpy!

Nice car Bumpy ! The wheels look great. That grey hoop just makes them look so classy. Nicely presented brake calipers too.

Someone mentioned 'icing' 8)
Well somewhere in between all the April 9 2017 Vimy Ridge Remembrances
(I am Canadian after all and my Grandfather did fight at Vimy with the 26th New Brunswick Battalion)
I managed to find a moment and Ebayed a set of 15 / 20 mm wheel spacers.
SWMBO will discover the emailed confirmation later today, so if I am AWOL for a while you will understand.
I have surrendered my future well being to the wisdom of Mr Wilks :tumbleweed:

Cheers and thanks

Bumpy , i can picture you now standing back after fitting those spacers & struggling to stop a wry smile & small round of applause for what you have achieved :P the 20mm/15mm spacer combo on 108s really is the icing for those wheels on a E85
