I had it on my Z4MC from about 14,000 miles to 100,000 miles. Would have kept it going, but the same premium offered much reduced cover after 100k.

In my case, and doing 20k miles a year, it was worth it. I probably paid out close to £5k in 5 years (mine was the £0 excess, fully comp option at £86/month), but got about £15k of warranty repairs done (engine, diff were the main items).

If you're not doing a lot of mileage, then it seems to make sense to just put the money away for a rainy day.

I have it on my Z4MC and have done since the AUC warranty expired in 2011.

It's probably not paid for itself in its entirety but there have been years when I've been up on the deal. It's horses for courses really. There's some very expensive parts for this car and I'd sooner have the peace of mind than just stick some money in the bank that I'd probably spend on something else anyway!

I'm not even sure whether the BMW Insured warranty will cover a 10 year old car, or whether there are restrictions on what it will cover at say 60,000 or 100,000 miles.

SSG (or SMG1) on the e85 is quite an old system, but I do t know whether that's a good thing (plenty of time to fix it) or a bad thing (couldn't fix it so fitted SMG2 & SMG3) to newer models.
