Is my mates roof knackered
An old friend of mine pop round this afternoon in his Z4 2.5 on a 53 plate had it around 2 months
All has been going well until today when his roof has decided only to go 3/4 of the way down?
The motor doesn't struggle in any way and I would say it was faster than mine but as I said doesn't go the last quarter and lock into place
There's no problem with it going back up again either!!! Is this the dreaded dead motor or the start of it or could it be something else( it's not the parcel shelf !!!)

I'm not an expert but the fact the motor is spinning fast but not doing the job well is making me think low fluid or leaking rams?
A professional will be along soon

Have you checked to see if the roof has folded correctly. this can stop it from opening correctly.
It's at the edges where it will show if there is an issue.

how about the little red pull tag in the boot, needs to be fully pushed home and only goes back one way round.
Took me a while to find this!!!!

Where are you, there are several experts who will fix motor issues in various parts of Country and mount in boot to ensure no further issuessi-forks wrote:An old friend of mine pop round this afternoon in his newly acquired Z4 2.5 on a 53 plate had it around 2 months

If the motor has never been touched ,sounds as it it needs some TLC.I was shocked when I finally found out exactly where it sits

I experienced this when working on one recently, but it was my own doing !
I'd bypassed the shelf sensor switch by slotting an electrical choc-block in the channel whilst testing and then had the shelf in the up position, so there wasnt room for it to drop in. (I know you say it isnt the shelf)
Therefore:-
1) See if the roof will fold completely down manually, using the red hoop.
This will determin whether or not the issue is physical, or mechanical, hydraulic, etc
2) Check that the previous owner hasnt bypassed the switch and there is still an obstruction
3) Check that the windscreen isn't catching on the back of the rear bulkhead, rather than dropping into the roof well. Sometimes it folds wrongly and mis-positions the glass.
