how difficult is it to fit an M bumper to the zed...and are there many extra bits needed?
plus what are the approximate costs of a new bumper?

You need the bumper including the lower grille, brake ducts, side undertrays and central undertray.

I managed to get the lot for under £400 collected, but then had to respray it (~£300) and get it fitted with 2 replacement side clips which are one use (£23 each side).

Total cost is getting on for a grand I'd say if you're paying for fitting.

I do prefer how it looks and definitely glad of the marginal additional cooling to the brakes /tyres particularly when on track, but it's not cheap!

The kit was all 2nd hand technically - the bumper had been resprayed, everything else was brand new, just not fitted.

ps
All the fuss about the undertray.
I used a damaged donor bumper that I got for free from the local Ford Dealer.
I cut a section that I used to join the middle part of the M Bumper to the 3.0SI Undertray.
You can save yourself some cost and bother.

food for thought I guess.
I was happy to get the original re-painted and was quoted 300.00, but tempted to do the M bumper...I imagine finding a good one second hand will be tricky

eBay FTW!

Could probably pick it up in your colour if you waited long enough as well.

As mentioned previously you can ask them on eBay if they can supply you with all the extra pieces you need as well. If the bumper is in 'good' condition then all the air scoops, trim pieces should also be useable!

You forgot to mention the metal brackets that you hang the brake ducts from. Actually they were the hardest part to locate.
The side clips where the bumper attaches to the wing are not necessarily a one time use. I didn't have any problems with unclipping and re-clipping the bumpers. But I have heard of some who have broken that plastic.

Here are the brake duct brackets :

^ Lucky me then - those brackets were already attached to my brake ducts when I got hold of my complete kit! Didn't even realise those were separately sourced!

Good to know on the bumper clips too.

Guys, from what I've read on zpost, there is no problem with retrofiting front bumper to M one. On the manual there is no word of replacing side undertrays and central undertray. On the other hand they say that:
Since the Z4M bumper is a tad lower than the standard Z4 bumper, the underside does not completely line up with the splash guards. You won't be able to reuse the 7 8mm screw/bolts along the underside. But the bumper is actually held quite securely by the top hex screws and fenderwell expanding tabs, so the underside hardware won't be necessary. Just put them away in a safe place as spare parts.
The previously mentioned short coming of the Facelift undertray is being solved via a piece from the donnar bumper as well.
I made a template that will fill the gap with a transition piece
On the other hand, @eddoe mentioned:
You need the bumper including the lower grille, brake ducts, side undertrays and central undertray.
So is this really an issue? What if I don't purchase new undertrays from M model, where is this space going to appear?

I didnt bother getting the M undertray when i fitted my M bumper some years back

A week or so later i was going 70+ down a dual road and the non M undertray ripped from its mounts, I was lucky it didnt go under the rear wheels.

Spend a little £ and cover that 3" gap with the proper sized undertray, otherwise the current one will rip off at speed...
