Moving roof motor

Post by Sharpy1975 » Tue Mar 28, 2017 10:36 am

Hi all........picking my Z4 Saturday(can't wait).

How many have moved the roof motor? I will be checking the drain plugs at least once a month - seems this can be done without wheels off ext.....

The car has been garaged most of it life so hopefully the motor is ok.....Spent a good hour reading up how to move the motor with the roof on, although I would still be worried about damaging it. Maybe I should wait for it to fail.

I used Durham Dave - £80 was worth the peace of mind. Most of the motors he relocates show signs of water ingress: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=86030&hilit=durham

If you are in the South then Number5 can also do it.

Worthwhile moving it whilst it's still working. Whereabouts are you located? I can do it for you through the week or of a weekend.

Based in Worcester.

What sort of cost is involved? I would try it myself but I will break something, including bones!

I can't wait to pick the car up........stunning 3.0 SE(auto), 48k with lots of extra's.

I charge £80 including an oil top up if required, and a cover to hide the motor.

Looks like this when done.

Seems like a no-brainer to get someone to do it for you. I suspect it's not that easy.

I am surprised, thought you would need long flexible arms, smallish body that's fits in the boot and small hands! As you say there are few that do it without any problem.
