As the title, I'm bored so I figured I'd go and get it moved, I haven't got anything to cover it once in the boot as I wasn't planning on doing it yet as this it's more a spur of the moment thing....
Anyway I'll get lots of pictures as I can't find any good info with pics, so I'll see what I can do and see how long it takes as a first time never attempted it before perspective.

Lots of pictures please, step by step guide would be good (apologies if there is one but I'm still a bit of a new lad on this forum - just need to find a Z4 that ticks all my many boxes)

I found it quite an achievement to get mine out myself and got a certain satiafaction from doing it so can see why you want to tackle it yourself.
I'm not sure if this will help or not but the pdf file on this page was what I followed to move my roof motor to the boot. http://www.zpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1215892
This guide viewtopic.php?t=85266 was also useful in that it had a great picture of the actual housing and the cable tie that holds it all together. These tie(s) will be holding the motor down and they either need to be cut or slid off if possible. You will also need to pull the cables out of the grey clip that holds them to the housing. After this the motor should easily slide out of the housing.
I think mine was a new motor so had extra cable ties, a standard original will only have 1 so i'm told.

Be careful when levering - The hydraulic pipes are securely slipped to both the front and back sides of the casing, exactly where you need to apply pressure, they are also secured to the casing with a bigger cable tie lower down, which you can only get to once you have the housing up and free.
There is also a hall sensor about an inch or so behind the motor on the frame, and again you have to lever the motor towards it. Nudge the sensor and the hood wont;t detect that it's fully closed and turn off the motor/extend the latch. I know because I have done that with the sensor and it was a right PITA to realign.

Yup, and yes, I know I am one of the people doing it, but if I damage a hose, it's down to me to replace it.. Hoses are around £280 for the set, not available separately.

Well it's in the boot.....
It all went well and before securing everything in place I tested it and it all worked as expected THEN as I was trimming the plastic to allow the pipes to run through into the boot I slipped and knicked a pipe, at first I thought it was just superficial so carried on and once it was in I tested it again and it pushed fluid out the knick......
Fortunately it's the short pipe from the pump to the N/S hinge so I've just removed it and will have to order a replacement tomorrow from BMW, It was typical as I started to rush knowing I only had 15 mins till dinner was on the table.
Oh well lesson learnt. thats £280 down the drain
Mike is changing a pipe straight forward and do they self bleed?
I'll need to order the pipes and some fluid tomorrow.

It might be worth seeing if you can get the pipe repaired or a new one made before ordering a set from BMW.
It's probably worth a google to see if you have a hydraulic pipe company local to you. Just a thought as you have removed the pipe already.

Have a look on eBay for salvage parts, there's a guy that breaks a lot of e85/e86 I think his user name is classiccarspares or something?

What did I say lol.. Luckily you've nipped the ONE pipe that you can remove without taking the whole roof out. As just discussed on the phone whip it down to a plant repair place and they'll either cut the ends off and recrimp to a new length of pipe, or fit an inline coupling. Make sure you tape up that hole on the cylinder now Darren, otherwise you'll probably lose the internal O ring.
When you refit the clip to the pipe on the cylinder, replace the small cable tie that holds the clip in place, or it will work itself up and off, releasing the pipe from the cylinder, again I speak from experience!

Thanks Mike your star
Just been out and taped it up and I could see it was still in there.
So I'll make a few calls in the morning, fortunately I'm off tomorrow so hopefully I can find somewhere to repair it tomorrow.

Ended well in the end.
After making a slip up with a sharp knife on the final stage of making the hole for the pipe work to pass through into the boot, to say I was gutted was an understatement as I'd just tested everything successfully before making the mistake.
Anyway after talking to Mike (Ducklakeview) on the phone he was good enough to give me some handy pointers on how to rectify the issue and after finding out the cost of my LITTLE mistake as informed by Mike £280!!!!! for the little 21" pipe I needed to find another option.
So yesterday I called around all my local hydraulic pipe repair specialists in my area and none could help with such a small bore hose......
I nearly gave up hope and ordered from the dealer when I spotted and advert on google for replacement and custom convertible hose specialist although they didn't list the E85 on there site I still called and spoke with a chap called Chris at Hel (I'll post a link at the end of the post) and he confirmed he could help me out and at the same time as the hose I was replacing is the shortest one that is pulled tight when you relocate the pump to the boot he said he could make it what ever length I wanted so instead of the 21" I had it made 24" and he also said he would crack on with it as I needed it asap so he made it sent it out yesterday and I received it this morning:

So all fitted and back to normal just with the the pump in the boot out of harms way and after all that the pump was mint anyway but it will at least stay that way now:

Anyway thanks for the help Mike.

Have dealt with them a few times over the years. You do know the pipes should be fed UNDER the shelf panel don't you? The OEM pipe is plenty long enough IF you spin the 90 deg connector on the end to point the other way

They are fed under that side piece, that pic was taken just before my slip up when making the cut out, but it still was a little tight even though it fitted ok but now it fits better.Ducklakeview wrote: ↑Wed Apr 19, 2017 8:51 pm Have dealt with them a few times over the years.
