My first time!

Post by mjennings23 » Tue Apr 25, 2017 7:38 pm

Well, I finally made the plunge, sold off my sensible, practical hatchback and made a 2 seater roadster my daily driver... The Mrs and my parents think I've lost it!

Purchased from John-e89 on here, very well specced and with stacks of paperwork. Spent all weekend out in the sun enjoying it too, a lovely introduction to ownership.

Got a few jobs in the pipeline, as follows:

Royals retrimmed steering wheel ordered
ZHP gearknob delivered (not yet fitted)
Clear third brake light ordered
Numerous front suspension parts coming - control arms, bushes, drop links and ARB bushes - there's a slight knocking to take care of, the car still feels fine to drive but the wheels do have a slight play so figured I may as well get it done now and then enjoy

Future plans?
Wheels, currently on 108s with corrosion on the outer, going to look for a set of MV2s to replace most likely.
Gaptech module, perhaps! Can see the benefits...
VANOS rebuild - We couldn't see any paperwork to say this has been done, so it'll be on the 'to do' pile... possibly until later in the year when I've had my summer fun!

I've also had to order myself some ramps and a new trolley jack, as the ones I've always used on mine and my dads cars are naturally too high to fit under the Zed!

Few quid spent already, but I feel its just going to make a good car better with extra little comforts and improved handling.

Photos are forthcoming, I am aware of the old 'TTIUWOP' phrase! :poke:

I had same problem with my trolley jack, rather buy a new one just drive onto a piece of wood about 2 inches high then you can slide your trolley jack under.

Thanks all

I was considering just knocking together a couple of bits of ply to lift it enough, but in all honestly my jack also has an awful maximum height, so saw it as an opportunity to change that too.

That, and purchasing the ramps will make jobs like oil changes so much easier than jacking up!

Hi and welcome

When I told Mrs R I had found the car I wanted she said: "I hope you're not having a mid-life crisis and buying a ridiculously fast car.". I replied: "Don't worry, I'm not having a mid-life crisis."

Don't forget the pics!

Enjoy :driving:

Make sure the ramps have a shallow elevation, with my old ramps the front bumper is so low it hits the ramps before the wheels reach them.

Oh, and show some pics !!

Have a photo!

Just ordered the relevant gear to do the VANOS seals, will change the rocker cover gasket at the same time as it just makes sense with the age of the car.

Suspension parts are out for delivery today, so Monday will be spent on my back no doubt swearing at seized ball joints!

Gap tech installed at the weekend... didn't realise such a simple little change would make life so much easier! Lovely sunny day, roof down by the time I get to the car. No faffing about holding a button for 15 seconds or however long it is inside, just simplicity!
