DISA "upgrade" competed, before and after videos..

Post by Ducklakeview » Sat May 20, 2017 9:57 pm

Ok, so had a rattly disa that made my car sound like a bloody diesel! The valve flap itself looked in good condition but there was a lot of play between the flap and the bellcrank. So I ordered an i6 kit, for £50. Also ordered the Vanos kit with anti rattle rings, but yet to fit that as the cam cover gasket hasn't arrived.

Anyway, 5 mins to remove the disa valve and about 10 mins to remove old parts, clean it and install new bits.

Back on car in 5 mins..

Before, it sounded like this..

Yuck!

After, it now sound like this..

I'm a happy bunny now..

Mike

Well played!

I've checked my disa and it seems fine. No play and it's reverting back to position all fine... that being said it sounds similar to your first video! Where was the play you detected? You posted previously and it was all fine? Or am I thinking about somone else? :?

Can the rattle / noisy sound be attributed to anything else?

Kis, when I removed the old parts, the play between the bellcrank and the paddle was obvious and visible. That was the cause of the noise, the system was telling it to close, but the paddle was flapping away..

I'm going to take another look at mine then. Did you take any pics of the process? Relatively straightforward? Any tips?

Ebay is your best bet. There are many different aftermarket replacements which all do a fine job.

I used the i6 automotive replacement, but the x8r one seems to be a great part too.

Just make sure you get the correct one for your particular engine.
