If you hadn't been such an A Hole keyboard warrior to forumites offering a newbie some honest/factual advice in the other thread we wouldn't be here now. The vendetta was yours and clearly honest and factual aren't is your limited vocabulary, there's nothing worse than a motivated moron!

Bends Ryan, bends . . . how do you use your 'performance' car? (265bhp - sports hatchback territory these days :o )

As you say you 'don't understand' - here's my reaction to your statement:
It's fascinating seeing how different people want different things from their 'sports cars'. Maybe we're different ages: I'm 60 and when I started driving (after getting a full motorbike licence so about 40 years ago), 100 bhp was a very powerful engine. The Ford Escort Mexico took 10 seconds to 60mph! So for me, getting the best out of 150bhp is still fun - it can make for a capable drive.
Been out on a 'spirited' drive (a hoon) today on our favourite back roads of Northumberland in our M (338bhp). My wife knows that I'd love 400+ bhp now . . .yet there were times today when I missed screwing the heck out of my 2 litre! The M (with the sports button on constantly) just takes a curl of the toes to blast to the next sharp bend (in the right gear of course - it's not that fast!) then manages the bend far better than my previous Zeds so much so that it's vital to back off in case of cyclists or others on the road = less satisfying? I've been advised to get the M on a track day to see what it can do but I drive on the road . . .
What is a performance engine? 200bhp - 300bhp 400bhp? More today? Some fabulous driving cars with a lot less and some folk don't want that much performance and yet they still have fun.

I have to say that it's the roof down for me and I often say that I'd be happy driving a model T if it was a convertible. Drivers on the forum know that the dynamics of the coupe (E86 stiffer) are far better than the roadster - does that mean my Roadster M is less of a sportscar? I don't care because I can't get the best out of my M as it is and certainly not safely on the road. The enjoyment for me is driving safely yet in a spirited way that is a challenge and adds to my experience without being a danger or causing injury to others (no driving enjoyment is worth that) - lots of times that means driving a lot slower than the M is capable of doing - using maybe 150 bhp . . . . . ooerr where have I heard that figure before? ( I'm just being devils advocate :P  )

Some folk just want the looks and prestige of owning a Zed - 2 litre in that case doesn't matter does it? For me there's great fun to be had making the most of any car - I don't care what they are, they're all a laugh on the limit, it's just that some limits are a heck of a lot higher than others. I loved that episode of Top Gear where a lightweight Frogeye Sprite with about 140 bhp (I think) blasted up a hill climb (my age group in attendance  ) - don't you think that'd be fun? :driving:

Another issue is the proliferation of speed cameras and ever greater penalties :( - the 2 litre offers lots of fun at more licence friendly speeds . . . can be quite frustrating and stressful owning a true performance car these days.

Stay safe out there - PS You've got a terrific Zed (I loved my 3.0si as well! :D  :driving: )

EXACTLY!!

There's a lot to be said for putting your foot down on a straight bit of motorway in the dry (and braking the law), but you can do that in any car.
It's a long way off but in a 2.0 roadsters you closer to the frill of Go-karts.
If you've never owned a original Mini, your not qualified to talk about "Driveablity", because a mini is the closest thing to Go-karts you can drive on the road that has a roof.
We all love go-karting (if not you're no petrol head). They don't accelerate fast, it's not about power at all. It's about keeping it in the power band as much as you can, keeping the speed through the corners and braking as little as possible.

When I bought my Z4 I didn't expect or care for something to beat other people on 'the autobahn', I rarely go near a motorway, and 9 times out of 10 I'm driving in a 30mph zone with traffic. But I'm very happy with it.

Got me thinking that Paul, I reckon 'performance' does come down to what you grew up with.
I remember buying a Cavalier SRi 130 - the '130' was the bhp. It impressed my mates. And a few years down the line I bought a Vauxhall Astra GTE 16v that pushed out 150 bhp if I remember correctly and got to 60 in around 7.5 seconds. It was a rocket - I'd never experienced such straight line acceleration!
Back then I drooled over the VW Corrado VR6 with its 190 bhp. Alas, I couldn't afford insurance on that sort of performance car back then.
So now I guess part of me is comparing the cars I wanted back in the 90's with my 3.0si - back then if someone handed me the keys to a 2 seater sports car pushing out 288 bhp I'd have thought I'd died and gone to heaven :)

OK OP, I'll add a bit of love for the 2 litre. especially the E89 variety as it has a turbo!

I can't see anything at all wrong with a 2 litre Z4 if it works for you - it doesn't really matter what other people think of it (unless they have one maybe)!

My first 2 BMWs were 4 cylinder Turbo-diesels - mainly because I was getting a car allowance and doing business miles. I had the first one 3 years and the second one 6 and a half years and enjoyed both (especially the 2nd one as it was a 123d - 201 bhp in a fairly innocuous 1 Series with a wave of torque was quite entertaining)!

But when I first went to view my 123d in January 2008 I had seen an E86 in the showroom and just loved it! I remember thinking I'd love to have one of those one day......

In 2014 I wasn't doing business miles any more, had taken a work-place pension early with a bit of cash so I made sure that day arrived! Anyway being an E86 the only choice was a 3 litre (an M would have broken the budget) so that is what I got, and I just loved it! Despite advancing years my boy-racer days haven't gone away completely, and that straight 6 is just great!

I have never had a convertible and wouldn't want one, but I can see why an E85 would appeal to those who do like them. Similarly the E89 - you could say it offers the best of both worlds or is neither one thing or the other, but regardless of that it appeals to many on here and there is no right or wrong answer thankfully!

The important thing is we all like Z4s on here, so OP just keep enjoying yours. :driving:
Coupes because stunning!
Current - Silver Grey MC, Imola Red heated Nappa & carbon trim. Aeros, H & R Coil-overs, 224s, OE Strut brace, Nav, cup-holders, DSP Hi-Fi, pdc, cruise, MFSW, no CDV! E90 330i daily
Gone - Montego Blue
Gone - Ruby Black

Apparently there is a right or wrong answer if you listen to Mr Clarkson ( I do know that a lot on here idolise him)
He said the E85s were terrible and were for people that were into wife swapping but seemed to love the E89 even though it was ONLY the 35i he was driving

Nothing wrong with a bit of wife swapping..you know "apparently"

"M" models aside the Zed isn't really a "sports car" as such, it's more of a GT (if it fits into any pigeon hole). Using BHP figures to justify a particular classification isn't appropriate either 230-265HP isn't actually all that much (my diesel Jag is 283HP and that's hardly a spotrs car).

I don't see anything wrong with the 4 pots at all, some people like them, some don't. Some people like coffee, personally I hate it but I wouldn't suggest that everyone switches to neat whiskey with their breakfast (just me LOL).

I haven't actually owned a 4 cylinder vehicle in several years (I'll give you a clue how long ago - It was a Rover 820 Vitesse Turbo - yep, that long). Since then it's been a succession of V6, Straight 6, V8 and even a 3 cylinder turbo.

Some like the character of a 4 pot motor, some a straight 6, some a V8, none of them are "wrong". Personally, my "nirvana" is a nice big block V8, but hey I'm a little odd. Actually, I need to get a "Wankel" fix at some point so that's on my list.

It's similar to the "Auto vs Manual" debate - it's horses for courses and 99% of it is a personal opinion/choice.

I'm just happy that most of the cocks moved over to Audi some years ago, at least now people will let us out into traffic at junctions :-)
