Double din ICE install

Post by Wafoo » Fri May 26, 2017 12:05 pm

Hi all

been fiddling with the Zed for a few days and all that needs sorting now is the roof.. but that can wait

What's really bugging me is the awful Radio/CD affair it has, it has the 6 CD multiplayer but seeing as no one uses CD's anymore was looking at either a double din or single din installation with DAB, bluetooth etc

The speakers seem fine so they can stay, I've hunted round the forum but seems to be a thousand ideas so if someone can point me in the right direction I'll be a happy bunny

Well what do you want, single or double?

Single will fit with an adapter. Double will need custom work. I have an ISO loom if you want it in the buy and sell board.

You could buy a Connects2 CTABMBT009. I just picked one up (arrived today so i am yet to fit it) but it gives A2DP, Handsfree and I believe USB/Aux in, connects to the back of your existing head unit, costs about £80....

Thanks guys, am probably looking at Double din, seems to give more options, plus then I can get rid of that CD stack in the centre stowage and use it for something more useful, what I don't know, but must be something gadgety tht can go inthere

Gone for the quick Aux input lead for now, at least it gets me decent music for my commute up the M4 while I decide on what to do

This just an idea, get 2 fascia adaptors , invert 1 of them an that should give you the shape of the hole left by the radio and vents, join together an make the rest of it work

Not being the greatest Stereo upgrade bloke, would this fit?

Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/172619410884

With a single DIN adapter, any single DIN unit will fit. You'll need a wiring adapter too.

Just to jump in and say, I have some 3D printers so when I find myself a Z4 I want I'll be making a double din surround :) at least that's the plan
NO LONGER OWN A Z4 SO NOT AS ACTIVE HERE ANYMORE (IF AT ALL).

Would be interested to see how this turns out, with/without vents could provide some interesting options.

Absolutely... I plan to try both variants.

Only "catch" is the printers MAX printable area is 190x190x180. I don't have a Z4 atm so can't measure the width. May have to be in 2 pieces. Height isn't an issue as I can see it's no where near 180mm tall, it's just the width I'd have to play with. Still, Once I have a Z4 and can take all the measurements I will be fun trying :)
