Boot lock delete
Hi all,
I'm starting to get a very small patch of rust just at the boot lock. It's not major but even before I noticed the rust I was considering doing away with the lock altogether just for the cleaner look!
Just wondered if anyone had done it?
Thanks as always

Haven't seen anyone properly smooth off the boot lock, but a few years back one of the guys on here made some body coloured lock covers. Will give you a rough idea what it would look like. I did buy a set from Sam, but never ended up getting round to fitting them.
Here's the post with some pics if it helps: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=40789&hilit=covers

You could stick an M badge over it.
it will also add 10 bhp.

Why is it that people who can't take advice always insist on giving it?

Strange how they put a lock on the roady and not the coupe would look so much better without it. But then reliant on the key unless there is a release in the footwell?
Cant remember.

There is a release in the footwell for the roady. The key lock is annoying - had many issues with it when positioning my extra badge

The coupe has a key lock too but it's hidden within the boot badge. To open the boot you push the badge in at the top and as the bottom half comes towards you at the bottom there's the key slot just for a backup. Much better design.
PS: There's also a button in the footwell to release it electronically.

Sounds like a good option if you can mod the roady to have the lock behind the badge? Probably too much work and the delete is just easier!Steve84N wrote: ↑Thu Jun 01, 2017 1:16 pm The coupe has a key lock too but it's hidden within the boot badge. It's a completely different mechanism, the badge is the boot handle.

It is strange how BMW changed the design between models. I loved pushing the BMW badge in to open the boot pretty cool little feature.
