You can sometimes use an existing diagnostic cable you might have. I downloaded the pro app and tried it with my BM Cables silver cable and a mini usb adapter I got with my samsung and it worked, saves quite a bit if you have an old diagnostic cable lying around.

What have you coded with Carly

I'd never heard of Carly until this thread so |I just had a quick look at their site and it's not exactly clear what would/would not work on my 2003 3.0i..

Has anyone else with a pre-facelift model tried using the app?

I'm also confused by "GM5" and "CVM" are and the website isn't a great deal of help

I'm quite tempted by Carly. In terms of diagnostics, how comprehensive it is? I have an engine light which I'd like to investigate - are there other cheap/DIY systems that would give me more?

Coded a few things on my '03 3.0i including:
roof operation from keyfob and operational while moving
audible lock conf
headlight wash every third screen wash for 3 seconds
all segments brake light
passenger window one touch
roof closes on rain sensor if stopped
satnav converts into jokemachine on mood-sense
satnav directs me to nando's on weightloss detection via seatbelt seatpad
but seriously, carlys' live paramenters function has helped me diagnose and fix an overheating issue.
still interesting to use it to keep an eye on 'real' live engine/oil/coolant temps.
ios + wifi dongle here.

Thanks Chris - I've found the USB cable I need on Amazon so I'll order that as on Prime it'll arrive tomorrow, I'll give it a go on the weekend then :-)

Really appreciate the feedback :-)

Roof closes on rain sensor. I like that. Our merc sunroof does that.
I didn't see that parameter on Carly.

my phone has the new USB input USB-C or USB type C

so i can't use my phone. I suppose I could dig out my 4 year old tablet if i can remember where it is. i'd also need to get the bluetooth version for the wifes car. disappointing there isn't a 1 solution fits all

In addition to some of the things mentioned I've coded the internal light to dim a lot quicker. This is the internal light which illuminates when you turn the car off.
And I think I also coded the panic alarm? That was just for fun!
I also disabled the unlock of the car from inside. i.e. If you've got the roof down you can't lean in and unlock the car. At least that's the theory. Can't remember too much as I did them all so long ago!

Great for diagnostics as well!

I have the Samsung S7 edge and use the micro USB adapter that came with that to connect it to my B Cables silver cable. So you should be fine I think.
I got Carly after seeing it in action at Mike's (Ducklakeview's). I though that's a damn sight quicker than ISTA D/P on a laptop and also easier than INPA. However for fault code diagnostics I still use the laptop based stuff as Carly wasn't able to read properly some codes in mine. For example I needed a new front light level sensor, ISTA/INPA read the code no trouble, but Carly didn't. It told me if found the a code but couldn't recognise it.
Also the Carly option for DLR's basically has the lights on no matter what position the light switch is in (including off). Where as the ISTA P version just has DLR's on the dip/normal beam position with off still being off. That said when I went back in with Carly after activating with ISTA P it did show DLR's 2/2 active but 1/2 inactive, despite Carly saying you must select both, so maybe that's the trick to it and it may be worth experimenting with other options that also say you must have certain other things ticked just to see what happens.

Is anyone using Carly on an N52 engine and able to see 'live' parameters? I've got the ios version but get nothing on parameters... coding and fault finding works fine though!?
