Powered Steering Issue

Post by Wacaday » Mon Jun 26, 2017 10:50 pm

Hello all,

I'm looking for some advice for a problem with my 2003 Z4 2.5i E85.

Today my car was showing the powered steering light when I started my car, the steering felt heavy but after moving the car forward a foot or two the steering returned to normal but the power steering light was still showing. I decided to restart the car and then the light went out and all was fine. This has happened every time today I have started the car from cold, initially no powered steering but then after a foot or two the steering comes back.

Can anyone please shed some light on what is at fault here please?

Thank you. :)

Hmm, good question. I've had the car two years, never changed the battery. I'll invest in a new one and report back, thanks. :)

Hi, I've replaced the battery and the issue still remains.

I have found it isn't going away as easily now, the sport button isn't working either ... any thoughts please?

Could well be the torque sensor ring, believe there's a fix that involves replacing it and moving the tension ring to prevent any future issues, there should be details on the forum

have you seen the other recent thread about a similar issue, might be worth keeping tabs on that
