My new ZED and few questions

Post by 9designs » Mon Jul 10, 2017 10:36 pm

So picked up my new ZED from fellow forum member... Wow the face lift does feel quite different to a pre face lift.

Couple things I noticed, I had folding mirrors before, this one doesn't have the little switch, did they delete that or make it an option?
Chance to retro fit it?
I have the MF wheel, but no Bluetooth kit. Possible to add? or better to change the audio head unit and get it in that?
It does have the extra speakers, subs behind the seats etc. (S676)

Xenon lights, looks like four, but only two seem to work, was expecting the others to come on with high beam.
It has option code (S522 Xenon Light).

I'm watching the cruise control harness thread, as that would be nice, I added it to my old one, that was easy as loom was in place.

YEP!
You have loads of options though. A quick seach on here will find you loads of posts, it just depends what option suits you?

Me personally, i had the Parrot CK3000 Evolution fitted INSIDE the glove box, and the guy that fitted it just charged me £18 extra for a specific loom to make the MF wheel buttons work. Its been in over 5 years, works perfectly, connects automatically EVERY TIME the ignitions turned on.
I HATE when people add extra bits like Parrot Kits on the dash! I know some people will want to see caller ID but i have my phone in a cradle on the windscreen normally, and there's no ugly clutter fixed to the dash, and it supports voice dial / Siri.
Works for me and has never needed attention.

Regarding Cruise Control
You can buy the and retro fit the OEM kit here for £130. Its pretty easy to fit, just a few variable on wiring depending on the model and year of your Zed.

Hey thanks ESP, I hadn't noticed a cruise control was listed, normally like hens teeth, I bought the kit instantly :D
The parrot in glove box sounds fine, agree don't like things stuck on.

Hi and welcome OP.

Love the red interior with the black! I think you'll find a 3.0Si quite entertaining.

Good luck with the upgrades!

Folding mirrors were always an option.

BT could be retrofitted but going oem would be costly if you can find all the parts. The loom will be the hardest and most expensive part. Better to go aftermarket.

I'm fitting my first custom loom this weekend so looking to get these out shortly afterwards.

Re Head lights - I'm pretty sure I've read on here that 2 are dummies - only there for the looks :)
I thought the same when I first got mine - glad I didn't take it back to the garage

One light will be Xenon bulbs, and one halogen. The halogen bulb is only used for "flashing" the main beam, as xenons are worn out by constant on/off cycling and also take a few seconds to warm up to full brightness. When driving with dipped lights on and you swap to main beam, a flap opens within the xenon projector to allow the full beam out.

But if its a face lift he'll need the wires as they weren't generically installed like in earlier Z4's,
am i correct?

Spot on; but in his first post the OP stated that he was watching srhutch's thread about the custom looms so wouldn't need the bimmertune one as well - only saying

I did but I was to impatient and didn't want to miss the stalk, cost comes out similar.
I've also acquired some folding door mirrors, module, switch pack and passengers side door loom. I read in another thread the drivers side loom will have the connector already, can anyone confirm this?

Looks nice! You've got a thing about red leather then?
When I bought the e46 I realised like you that there are other options I wanted but we're too costly to retrofit. So I held out for the right Zed. That being said I think retrofitting in a pre is much more simple than the facelift! Good luck with the mods
