Rust warranty, car back with new tailgate...WTF!!!!

Post by Danz4coupe » Sat Jul 15, 2017 4:43 pm

Picked up my coupe from Coopers BMW with new tailgate done under anti corruption warranty. Looked at where the rust had been and was greeted with nice clean fresh metal, looked at paint while tailgate was open and all looked good!!
Shut said tailgate and jumped in quick as it was chucking it down and drove home, ran indoors to avoid the rain then went for another look once rain had stopped and.......WTF!!!
Tailgate looks like it been fitted by Stevie Wonder!! panel gaps are not only HUGE but literally EVERYTHING looks off!!...left to right, up and down, side to side all of it looks terrible!!
Floored it back and one of the managers took pics and said he'd take it up with body shop manager Monday. To say I'm fuming is an UNDERSTATEMENT!!
I can't seem to find any decent pics of panel gaps to show them what it suppose to look like, especially the ones where the rear screen meets the roof when closed and whete tailgate meets the door top bit...can anyone out there with a coupe help with some? Preferably in a light coloured car for a clearer look. Thanks in advance..

That's bad news, hope it all gets sorted with the minimum of hassle. Which Cooper's BMW is it, so I can make sure I avoid them at all costs!!

Really need to get mine sorted, but worried that I'm gonna end up with something worse than the little bit of rust I have now!

It's was Coopers BMW in Chelmsford, I want it put RIGHT and they know it now. Got to be perfect now or I'm not accepting it.

This is only pic of gap on old one before they messed it up with new. Not that clear so could do with some close ups of gaps if anyone can help.

Blimey!

I am waiting a decision on my Coupe but, i 've only got a small rust spot in the tailgate so if that's how it ends up, I wont let them touch it and just put some rust cure or something on it instead!
My car is pampered now and only gets wet when I wash it and is garaged so will have to wait to hear what BMW have to say first!

If I knew their was a risk it was gonna turn out like this I would've treated the rust and kept the old one that fit perfectly. Hopefully they'll sort it coz I'm not going away until I'm 100% happy that's for sure.

I wouldn't sweat, they've got a duty to put it right, not just the rust but the panels as well (now that they've started working on it).

I've no doubt they'll sort it, just it's obviously a bit of a faf. Complain. Maybe they'll give you a free service or something next time you're due. After all they've wasted your time by not doing it properly.
