Maybe that's what Z4Pilot ad Wood Butcher has rattling about in their cars :fuelfire:

Crashy suspension - did BMW never look at the quality of UK roads when they designed the thing? I thought they did part of their testing on Belgian cobbles, not just at the Ring...

But then I park it up, walk away, look over my shoulder and forgive it
Great post :D pretty much boxes up any 86 negatives with its ultimate positive , they just look so damn good
The glovebox is a pisstake on all 85s 86s , compare with a Mk1 TT glovebox & it makes you want to seal it up forever with gripfast :P its pretty poor quality stuff against the Audi offering

Mine has cruise control, but frustratingly there is no "on dash" light as there appears to be on every other car with cruise control. Only a minor point though.

Overall for a daily driver that is now 10 years old I am more than pleased with my Coupe. Despite some of the minor niggles mentioned by others, whilst my car has some of them too, none are bad enough for me to consider changing it for something else.

I must concur with Marlon here.
No squeaks or rattles at all, in fact it was one of the things that most impressed me about this car.
Door clanging is abysmal though,I must confess.

Wood Butcher wrote: Tue Jul 18, 2017 9:14 pm For me, it's definitely all the rattles and squeaks in the cabin, they are really spoiling my enjoyment of the car. I've been removing parts of the trim and trying to insert foam between the pieces to stop them banging/rubbing against each other. This has worked up to a point, but new noises appear all the time

Now it's summer, I'm getting different pieces of trim rattling to when it was colder, and the roller cover for the tailgate is a rattle fest in itself. The wanky cupholders vibrate like mad at certain revs too.

The coupe is my first BMW, previously I'd had Vauxhall and Ford, they didn't really rattle or squeak much, so had expected rather more quality from the interior. It was only after I bought the car, I discovered they were made in America, which probably explains the terrible cheapness and rubbish quality! :fuelfire:
The American assembly plant is quite something - the quality control and assembly process is second to none. There's a vid on here somewhere, small comfort for you with all your rattles I guess - I haven't got a tailgate but mine cabin is as tight as a drum and quiet as a mouse, very odd.

The rattley interior for me and the tinny doors, Does insulating them make a massive difference?

You can solve the tinny doors mostly by installing a later revision doorlock.
Insulating has some effect though, but new doorlocks are more effective.

That's interesting. Not heard about this one before.

So do you mean a superseded part? Or do you mean the facelift version from a e85 or e86?

You got a part number? :)

Number 9

This part was redesigned in 2007, so late 2007/early 2008 z4's should have this already I think.
I dont have these myself (i did fit some dampening mats though, with moderate suc6), but I know a few personally who do. (but they are all LHD of course so I cant 100% assure that RHD will result in the same, RHD has different partnumbers)
Its a pretty common mod where I'm from (dutch z forum, but I think the germans also know this).

Right-o! I think I'll give this a go before I do sound deadening. May end up doing that too, but at least I'll hopefully see some improvement with the newer part!

It would appear that buying at the end of the model range means lots of niggles are ironed out - mine is a 2008. Probably goes for most manufacturers.

Mostly yes, but its not all good.
For instance retrofitting cruisecontrol/mfst and such. In the older versions it's still all prewired, in the later versions you need to install the wiring loom too
