Did you open up the motor itself too?

Yes, I always do if they are inop. Simply soaking them in diesel etc won't remove the internal corrosion on the commutator, or release sticking brushes. There are a couple of capacitors inside that are of the film type, and they rot away breaking the internal circuits. Soldering and replacement is required to get them going again.

So do you tap those clunked pins/corners back with a chisel and afterwards punch them shut again?
As far I could see thats the only way to open them.
I mean these edges that are punched:

(this is a facelit motor, obviously not nearly as damaged as the one you're showing :D )

The internal capacitors are I think soldered in parallel, not series? (so if they would break away they would not break circuit, they are there for noise suppression)

Looks like the roof motor from a north Sea trawler!
Great work reviving that one.
So this is where I write about the car? 2003 E85 2.5i, sterling grey, red leather, 106s with Goodyear Eagle F1s, factory xenons, folding mirrors, cup holders, retrofit cruise control, Bilstein B4's all round. And a whippy!

It's a design failure on so many levels!
You don't stop playing when you get old - You get old when you stop playing!
So I bought a 35is with all the toys to play with.
