The BEST roof motor Ive seen to date

Post by Sky-drive » Wed Jul 19, 2017 12:20 am

Gotta have some balance :)

So forum member No 5 down in Bristol very kindly relocated my roof motor into the boot a little while back.

The motor came out easily enough of my 53 plate Zed and was still in its sealed plastic cover.

On inspection it looked like this:

Roof drains were also dry and completely unblocked on checking them too. Happy days!

I like to think that not all roof motors removed from their mountings come out looking like a bucket of rust and snot!

No way of checking 100% if it is the original ... however the two piece black plastic box surrounding the motor still had the original seal intact and unbroken. I was advised the two previous owners kept the car in a garage and really only used it in the summer months. Theres nothing in the service history to indicate the car has had a replacement at any time ... so I like to think its the original

These didn't have a cover pre facelift, so on that basis it must have been replaced.

ALL pre AND post facelift roadsters have the plastic cover from the factory.

OP, do you have a pic of the cover, notably the top? Also, and stickers or writing on it (marker pen)

As that still has the smaller spade connectors on it, there is every chance it could be original, I've seen a few in that condition. However, it could also have been replaced prior to about 2007 when the newer motors supplied after that date which have std spade connectors on them, need the wiring adaptation kit that came supplied with them from BMW. Sounds complex, but it's only 2 lengths of wire approx 60mm long, with the bigger spades on one end and male versions of the older, smaller ones on the other.
