Yep, roof opening but not closing from fob sounds right-you need a gaptec module to enable this function

Just had my 2004 E85 coded by a local forum member so that my roof opens and closes off the key fob

Yes, the E85 can be coded to allow the key fob to close the roof (I did it on mine), but it blows anyway, as you have to press and hold the button for the whole time it is closing... . I fitted a gaptech so you only have to click the lock button 3 times and walk away - the roof closes, the windows wind up, the car locks - simples  . Plus you have the bonus of one-touch up and down operation with the open/close buttons inside the car - again, no press and hold while you wait for the operation to finish.

SOME can be coded to close as well as open, the option doesn't work on a lot of earlier cars. I've done a few. However for me, the Gaptech RCH+ is well worth the money for the convenience and ease of operation, ie click, click, click and walk away and then there's the "one touch" operation, which I can imagine to be a godsend in a manual as the traffic lights go green, just as you have put your finger on the roof buttin..
