I want....
More power
I could swap to an Si, but for 30 odd bhp? Plus with the time and effort, not to mention money I've spent on mine getting it the way I like and properly sorted, spending maybe £3 or £4,000 going that route seems a waste of money to me, especially as I'll then start fettling it..
An ///M is out for me, like my auto too much, so is an E89, as no boot space with the roof down, so couldn't use it for the cash and carry...
Which leaves me with getting more power from the M54B30...
Turbo is a no no I think, due to limited under bonnet space, which brings me neatly to Beedub, and his ESS kit...
I've seen this; http://esstuning.com/ess-m52tu-m54-vt1- ... er-system/ but doubt that's all I will need...
So does anyone know what else is required from a parts POV? And what sort of gains I'd be looking at?
I will no doubt need an LSD, so I think Bird's are the go to guys for that, unless I can make an M3 one fit?
Lastly, will the ZF 5HP 18 box cope?

I think any of the brought off the shelf kits have everything you need. Only Some kits are not cooled o be carful on that. Brake upgrades are not a bad idea. And the lsd is a good improvement. Don't just look at birds but also m factory I have one of these fitted it myself simple job. Or you can put an M rear end in also getting a brake upgrade but that's probably the most exsphesive option.

Get the LSD first, it makes the car so much better to drive you'll probably forget about adding power for a while.

Step up to an Si, then remap and you're pushing 290 bhpDucklakeview wrote: ↑Thu Jul 20, 2017 2:07 pmI reckon you'd struggle to see 10% from a remap on a normally aspirated engine.

You gain 25hp from a remap on a N/A car? What were the before and after figures if you don't mind me asking as that really seems a tad optimistic (by 20bhp...).Marlon wrote: ↑Thu Jul 20, 2017 2:44 pmStep up to an Si, then remap and you're pushing 290 bhpDucklakeview wrote: ↑Thu Jul 20, 2017 2:07 pmI reckon you'd struggle to see 10% from a remap on a normally aspirated engine.

honestly! The N52 is very tuneable for an NA engine, i got 218bhp with RR graph from my 177bhp 2.5i facelift unfortunately not got the graph any more - however if u research N52 mapping its very plausable, not so much with the M54.

I'm amazed, but every day is a school day.
So your car went from a 177bhp book figure to 218bhp? What did the rollers say before and after?

Didn't have Dyno runs, so can't back up that figure.
