TV in Motion for DIGITAL E85 tuner

Post by PJ6363 » Sun Aug 13, 2017 6:20 am

Hello all, I am thinking of upgrading the analog tuner to digital tuner in my 2006 E85 as we no longer have analogue in Australia and can get my hands on a near new one (BMW part no. 6956832). Next step would be a TV in motion cable but I'm not sure if it would work....the ebay sellers I've viewed always stipulate for analogue tuner. Anyone had any experience with this? Maybe even some recommendations? Thanks, John

It will work as I had TV in motion cables in both my E46 M3 and E53 X5 which have the same equipment as the E85. I wouldn't bother with it however, the digital signal is very poor on the move and you will rarely get a continuous picture on your screen. It worked quite well with analogue but not digital.

He's in Australia where they've dedicated the airwaves to digital so not the same as here in Scotland...

You can still get an analogue TV signal in the UK?

No, but it's not a direct comparison. They might be using different more reliable bandwidths.

Equally they might not. A quick glance on wiki would suggest a very similar set up to the UK, in fact the UK seems to have utilised a more advanced system. I really don't get your point here, the hybrid BMW tuner that the OP is looking to install in his vehicle does not give good results on the move. That's all I was pointing out.

Just pointing out that YMMV but your point is of course valid.
