Exhaust tip sizes

Post by greg81 » Sun Aug 13, 2017 7:42 pm

Hi all,

A while back I got a wonderfully modded DLV backbox, which is incredible. Unfortunately though my exhaust tips didn't fit onto the new box as they're a different diameter.

I presumed swapping a box from the same engine size would mean my tips would fit bit unfortunately not.

My question is what various sizes are there and what am I looking for exactly in new tips? My old box outlets have a diameter of 60mm and the new box is 70mm. Is this a facelift thing? I have an '04 E85

My old tips are going for free by the way if anyone can make use of them... viewtopic.php?f=7&t=99364

I looked into this a while ago because I got a set of 2.2 engine tips. So 2.2 and 2.5 part numbers are exactly the same. And then 3.0 is different. I assume since part numbers are different the sizes are slightly different.

Was meaning to rip the ones on my car off this weekend (they're being stubborn to remove) but didn't get the time. Will give it another go on Wednesday as I'll be home early. Should help?

No idea about facelift...

Thanks.

As far as im aware the 3.0 box wouldn't fit on my 2.2 so it must the right box but with different size pipes? I'm confused :(

Greg, the 3.0 box will fit onto the 2.2/2.5, although the tips on the 3.0 are bigger, iirc, they are 60mm across the widest point. However I can't see me fitting a 3.0 box to a 2.2 unless I was drunk! Very strange.....

Ah. You didn't fit it for me, just sent it to me and I fitted it. That may explain it then..

I took a couple of pics quickly...

The bigger diameter is on the box on the car, and smaller I took off.

Thanks Mike. I was more just interested to work out why they wouldn't fit :)
