Z4 Sport - wheels

Post by Grahampike » Mon Aug 21, 2017 12:26 am

Hi,
I have just purchased a 2006 2.0 sport model. It has 18 inch standard wheels. If I chose to change the wheels to the ten spoke 16 inch wheels style 104 which were fitted to the se model of that year, would I encounter any problems in regards to fitting because of any differences between the two models.

Thanks for your help.

Not with a 2 litre model.
If I were you I'd compromise, go for 17's :)

OUt of interest, why would you do this swap?

I think the 2 litres brakes are small enough to fit under 16"s so you should be fine :)
Z4 now sold :(

With smaller wheels, the car genreally feels lighter on its feet and feels that bit sharper to drive.

I've just fitted 18 inch wheels to my coupe- for looks only as it doesn't feel quite as good to drive now as when I had 17 inch wheels fitted.

To answer question above, it was really because of the difference between the cost of tyres, should I do a lot of miles in it. However I do like the comment re the handling, I had a 2.0 SE back in 2006 and that had 16" and was a lot of fun to drive.
Thanks for your answers.

I was originally in the same boat but for several reasons decided to move to 17's after which I think I'll give the 18's a try (sitting in the shed).

My 16" 104's were runflats. So not the best. They were also slightly old, so not the best performance either. 17" aren't too expensive. You might even be able to pick a set of alloys up on here (buy and sell section) with lots of good rubber?

17" will also give you better cornering performance over 16". Whilst giving you cost savings for not going up to 18" or even 19"

Finally 17" are more aesthetic over the 16". Not really that important overall I guess, but it's a lovely car and 104's don't complement it too well (IMO).
