Alloy refurb ......PICS ADDED

Post by Z4MO » Sun Aug 27, 2017 10:03 pm

Purchased these alloys a couple of years ago from the U.S
19 inch Avant Garde M590s - Hand brushed finish including the barrel with a clear lacquer.
Noticed that they were beginning to bubble around the centre caps. I think it was caused by stone chipping of the lacquer together with the strength of alloy wheel cleaner. . I have contacted a few wheel repair companies and taken them to be inspected but all stated they were not capable of recreating the brushed finish which was the main feature I wanted.
I then had no choice but to get them powder coated in a bright silver finish, they are ready to collect but I'm pretty sure I wont like them.
Will update thread Tuesday

They were buddy but who knows how much they will change without the beautiful finish, trust me the pics are not doing justice to the finish that they had. :(

Thats a nice effect, wouldnt you get that kind of look if you got them vibration polished, but left out the final polishing cycle.

Not something I've heard of and its too late now but I'd even spoken to precision engineering firms who couldn't help. No point buying another set if it happens again. I think they only covered 1000 miles

Picked them up today, My photographic skills are well known on the forum, the LACK of them.
The finish is Platinum Silver and the photos were taken whilst it was overcast and cloudy .
I'm not sure what they will look like on the car but I was pleasantly surprised when I collected them.

They look great both before and after. Shame about the original finish not lasting but that looks like a really good job.

Personally I'm not keen on machined/clear lacquered alloys and I've never seen a set including OEM that sooner or later don't start corroding under the lacquer which makes them look terrible.
Much prefer the finish you now have....looks superb ! Fit some new BMW roundel centre caps to finish them off.
