How did penalty points affect your insurance?

Post by PGardner93 » Thu Oct 08, 2015 10:01 am

I'm not looking for any 'holier than thou' do-gooders to lecture me on speeding. I'm just curious as I have points on the way at the end of this month.

So, what were you paying previously?
How many points did you acquire?
What did your insurance increase up to?

Age and NCB would be interesting to know too, but I know some people aren't always willing to disclose.

Cheers, I look forward to your responses. :driving:

You don't say what your receiving but if these are your first points and it's an SP30 or similar. you probably won't see an increase at all.

I should have mentioned, I don't know how many points I'll be receiving yet. I'm just trying to gauge expectations. I was caught being an idiot at 102mph in a 70 - I have zero points on my licence so far though.

Exactly the speed I was clocked at. An appearance at court, a plead to a sympathetic lady magistrate resulting in £650 plus 6 points. No lawyer.
Good luck

I've been told that an early guilty plea by post meant a reduced sentence so I've done that and ticked the box that I won't attend court and consumer more of their time.

I've also written a fairly good plea of mitigating circumstances. Up in the air as to where it will go from here but if they want to ban me they'll have to call me in to court at a separate date, onl then will I bother getting a lawyer.

Simple way to check - go on a comparison site, fill in the details with no convictions and get a price, save the quote and then add your conviction (use Roy's example 6 points - you'll get the conviction code from a drop down menu - I.e. Sp50, Sp30 etc) and recalculate the quote

Bit careful though that if you put in your real details, they pick up on it (so I have read from others).
Current:
911-50 Black - unique spec
X5M - 575 hp of fun in a V8
Abarth 595 Comp.
Golf Clipper - collectors item
Z4 3.0si Black Sapphire
VW ID.3

Previous:
Z4M Silver Grey - non flimper spec (gone to Bing)
Z4 3.0 Toledo

I'm not sure by how much my premium was increased as I did not get a quote declaring no points. One thing that was increased was the compulsory excess.

UPDATE: Court date was yesterday. Came out with 6 points and a £500 fine. 102 in a 70mph zone in Wales

Can't complain really, I was on for a ban. I'm a 22 year old male from England caught in Wales and I represented myself without a lawyer. 6 Months after the original offence and I can finally get a proper nights sleep.

Not looking forward to renewing my insurance though! I think it may force a sale, but that's not until April and I have many more miles and smiles between now and then.
