Hi all
Looking to change my tyres on my 3.0i
At present fitted with uniroyal which are very noisy
Im looking for a quiet ride but need the grip as well
But after putting up with the uniroyals,low road noise is a big issue
Non run flats are fitted at present
Any recomends plesse

I've used Good Year Eagle F1 Assymetric 2s for a few years now - on my 3rd set (due to Zed changes).
I find them excellent in wet and dry and most importantly - quiet.
They are also reasonably priced for an excellent tyre.
There is a new version available now but I have no experience of them - Assymetric 3s I think.

Having had Michelin pilot super sports in the past on various cars I grabbed a set on here and have just put them on my 35is Tony, as thought they are utterly superb for smoothness and grip, road noise I can't really comment as I never have the roof up, roof down it seems fine though. For what I need I doubt I'd go anywhere else as they're so good, better the devil you now etc. Having said that I only use my car in the dry.
Other people prefer different brands obviously and if you need tyres for winter, mainly for wet stuff, you might be better going for a something else. Mr Wilks is pretty clued up on tyres and will probably jog on here at some point but if not pop him a PM or flag him up on one of his posts, he's probably got more experience than most on tyres.

I'm a convert to Good Year Eagle F1s
I can't work out if its the style 32s or the tyres but the car is definitely driving better (to be fair my Vreds were close to the limit)

What Uniroyals did you have that were noisey? I've got Uniroyal sport contact 3s and I don't notice much if any noise.

What tyre would you buy in the same price range ?
They don't claim or aim to be top flight premium rubber which you pay twice as much for , as with anything in life you get what you pay for
The URs3 offers a lot for a little imo & are far from a "budget" tyre

When I replaced my tires 2 months ago the difference in premium brands was a matter of £'s so it was really just down to preference.
I fitted a set of Continental Sport Contact 6 (their ultra high performance summer tyre) after some great reviews and am very happy. I live on the South Coast so whilst it does get cold I am happy running summer tires year round, I do relatively low milage too so higher wear not an issue.
Wet weather grip and braking is fantastic, in the dry traction control refuses to activate unless driving like a total idiot. When it is 4 degrees and on damp roads traction isn't quite as good alout still the best I have experienced.
Left field choice that no one very uses in Zeds so thought I'd post my feedback. Replaced a worn set of Pzero RFT which were awful in comparison.

I too am driven nuts by the racket from my OE Bridgestone RFT's and if I dump them it'll be because of this and not the quirky handling which I've adapted to and is not a concern.
Quietest tyre I found was the Dunlop SP Sportmaxx GT which comes in at 68dB front and 69dB rear on 235 and 265 tyres (non original rims).
BUT, after reading this on Pistonheads http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=1343700 I'm no longer hopeful of a guaranteed fix. Perception and acceptability seem very subjective, especially when the levels are taken at 7.5 meters away and a 50mph driveby. Levels inside the car will be very different.
I think it was Maniac who pointed out on another thread that we need to remember how close our ears are to the rear axle / wheel arch.

I personally would buy a tyre befitting a £50k 'sportscar' so with that in mind contisport 5s or pilotsports etc.. I fitted the uniroyals to my old 3.0si because I was curious, they certainly look nice and on paper seemed to be a very decent buy. I found them to be perfectly fine for pootling around but at high speed they felt very dangerous, they lacked feeling and I felt very removed from the road. I tried adding more and more pressure without success, swapped them over to sessanta ultracs which have a similar tread pattern, night and day difference.
At the end of the day, if the uniroyals were as amazing as some people claim then why would anyone bother buying a more premium tyre? simple fact is, they aren't, they are in the same price range as cooper tyres, nankang and avon. Would you honestly consider any of those?

Yes my mistake, uniroyal rainsport 3 which I find excellent, yes sidewalls do feel softer but I up the pressure slightly and they are fine. Have you actually tried them? I've fitted Uniroyals and they're fine for fast road use and certainly a big improvement on the run flats. There's more feel and although the tyres give more on hard cornering it feels more predictable as the adaptive suspension seems to settle better over uneven surfaces.
