Key Fob Roof Down
Hi,
I have one key fob that takes the electric roof down when I press and hold the open button, however the other key doesn't do it. Is there a way of programming the second key to do this when I'm using it to keep it charged up?
Cheers,
Andy

Hi, the keys are charged up while the car is being driven, is that what you are asking?Andyturbo2000 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 25, 2017 9:44 am Hi,

They should both work regardless. However if the battery in one is coming to the end of its life i.e. not recharging fully etc you may find that the car goes 'failsafe' to prevent the roof becoming stuck half way through its operation. Do you have an induction charging mat you could drop it onto for a day and see if that works!!!

One key fob brings the roof down if I hold the 'car open' button for long enough. The other doesn't, even when it's charged. I guess it's down to programming?

So how do we get the key fob programmed to open the roof ,hope it is not a trip to the local stealer show room.Had my 2009 E89 for 2 years now and the key fobs have just started to go on strike in the roof down department. They are sealed units so replacement battery is out ,yes?I do not have an induction charging mat ,where can I get one and how much are they?
Have a nice day.

Another thought,is it anything to do with the actual car battery in the boot,if it is low on charge would it prevent the key fob from opening the roof as you walk towards the car?
Have a nice day.

Does your car have comfort access (keyless entry)? Cars with this option have keyfobs with replaceable (non rechargeable) batteries.

No comfort access so my key fobs do not have replaceable batteries worse luck they are supposed to be rechargeable in the ignition.Used to work until a few weeks ago but no longer.Do you know of any reason why this should suddenly stop working with the key fob, interior buttons fine.
Have a nice day.

Do you use both fobs regularly to keep them both fully charged? I suspect that the one that doesn't work is emitting too weak a signal.superduperredz4 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 25, 2017 3:18 pm No comfort access so my key fobs do not have replaceable batteries worse luck they are supposed to be rechargeable in the ignition.Used to work until a few weeks ago but no longer.Do you know of any reason why this should suddenly stop working with the key fob, interior buttons fine.

Yep I use them both ,change them around about every 2 months but both are not working now.I will try the charging method next by leaving the key fob in the ignition whilst maintaining a trickle charge on the battery.Saw this online.
Have a nice day.

Hi yes it used to but not any more.Unlocks the car then nothing else.Still unlocks the boot as well when pressing that button.Could it be the car battery telling me something?
Have a nice day.

You could confirm that either way but sitting in the car and trying to open the roof in the normal way with the centre console button...if it works it's not a battery voltage issue. I can't help thinking it's a key issue..maybe the battery in the fob is not holding charge well so you get enough power for a blip (like and unlock etc) but the sustained signal required to open the roof kills the battery pretty quickly. Bit of a guess but plenty of places will replace the battery for you included the well respected forum member ducklakeview for very little cost.

If the switch in the car opens the roof and the other fob opens the roof and windows then its a defective fob, simples. Go get a new one and try it before you leave..

IT HAS A RECHARGEABLE BATTERY? No way! I've just been using regular ones in mine! Haha!
