I hope you’re not letting them have it for a song! Sell it on here for a reasonable price & you can both be laughing :)

It’s 8 yrs old, what was the entry level engine and therefore not as desirable as other models (sorry), the worst time of year to sell a convertible and a low ball trade in figure from a dealer of a different marque.

You were never going to be happy with all that against you.

Thats a bit tight....

I traded in my 2009(59) 23i sdrive (no satnav) with 24000 miles 2 weeks ago and got £8900 for it.

That was from a Citroen dealer in York. I bought an LCI z4 2.0 Msport from them.

I've just had a quick look on Autotrader and the cheapest 23I (thats not Cat D) with similar spec and mileage is going for £10,100 with no IDrive and the next one up has no IDrive and cloth! Both these are trade sales the cheapest private sale is £10,500 (again no IDrive). You sure the dealer was looking at the right Z4 in the book? 7K sounds like a low ball

If you want to get a basic idea of trade/private prices go on autotrader click sell put your mileage and NP in and it will give you those values.

Or details into WBAC then add around 15% / 20% to their figure , they have very real world grasp of what you would likely achieve in a private sale .
From the brief description of the OPs car i think right now or the next 4-5 months £10k would be a stretch for the car  its grim news but reality is cars do go down & as already pointed out is a base spec , base engined 8yr old car for a sizeable sum :(

Trade in price will always depend on what your buying but I think you’d struggle to get £8k as a P/X

I disagree.
Having just traded a very similar car in for £8900, I would expect £8000 for the OPs car as it has higher miles than mine had.

The car you are taking away will have a value to the dealer & therefore his margin will always reflect on what they can give you for yours

So many variables in this equation. If you know which car you want try ringing around a few dealers and see what the response is. Most will give you a ball park figure over the phone. Prices are usually a bit better towards the end of the month. We have been prepared to travel to get the deal we wanted. 18 months ago we improved on the offer made by our local dealer by nearly £4000 by being prepared to travel for three hours. Be persistent.

Theres no point moaning about it imo. If you think you can sell it for more private then why not sell it yourself? Dealers aren't there to do you a favour, they are a business and rely on people not giving a s**t what there trade in value is.
